P, EDT, EDC and EDP (perfumery) - what is it?

Virtually every person in one way or another uses perfume in their lives. Everyone wants to leave behind a trail of a pleasant fragrance that would please both himself and others. However, often people make a choice based solely on whether they like the smell or not. And almost always they call what they buy, spirits. However, this is fundamentally wrong, since not everything that can be found on the shelves is perfume. On the contrary, most often you can find other products that have completely different naming.

And the point here is not only in the name - the characteristics of these products are also different. Very often you can see abbreviations and abbreviations, such as EDP-perfumery. What it is? What other abbreviations are there? What do they matter? These are the questions you will find answers in this article. You will be able to find out what EDP perfume is - what it is, what is better than EDT or EDC, and much more.

Common abbreviations

Before considering each of the variants of abbreviations and understanding what EDP-perfumery means (what it is, you will learn a little later), it is necessary to collect together all the abbreviations that exist in perfumery - and, of course, to decipher them. So, the first thing you can meet is the letter P. It means Parfum, and it is under it that the real spirits are hidden. Speaking of the EDP mentioned above, this is Eau de Parfum - that is, perfume water.

There are also other abbreviations - EDT and EDC. What do they mean? The first abbreviation stands for Eau de Toilette, and the second as Eau de Cologne. In Russian, these names are known as toilet water and cologne, respectively. Now you have an idea about abbreviations like EDP-perfumery. What is it, you will learn in more details right now.

Perfume

So, the first thing to pay attention to is, of course, P. It is this substance called spirits, it is the most persistent and concentrated. The fact that it is made on the basis of pure 96-percent alcohol with the addition of a high percentage of essential oils. Their percentage in the finished product is from 18 to 30. Thus, the real perfume is a substance that can retain its fragrance on the cotton fabric for thirty hours without losing its clearness of smell.

Unfortunately, to date almost no one is making real spirits. That's why it was originally said: to call spirits what you get in the store will not be entirely correct. However, what do people acquire in this case? To do this, you need to find out what EDP means in perfumery, and also how this substance differs from EDT and EDC.

Eau de parfum

Now it's time to look at what EDP represents and what is different from P. It should be noted right away that this type of perfumery is the most widespread and high-quality of those that are created today on a global scale. There is even a special perfume site edp.ru - perfume there is available in a huge variety. However, not everyone knows how important this abbreviation is. Deciphering it was already indicated above, but what is the difference between perfume water and perfume? The fact is that alcohol for its creation is used less strong - 90 percent solution. As for aromatic oils, which are responsible for the strength and persistence of fragrances, they are in perfumery waters from 10 to 20 percent. As you can see, this is much less than in the case of real spirits - accordingly, and the aroma is kept less, on average about four hours.

Eau de Toilette

Eau de toilette is also often found in shops, and it differs in that it has an even lower content of aromatic oils, and is also based on an even weaker solution of alcohol. Recently, the advantage in the market passes precisely to the toilet waters - if we talk about the male half of the flavors, then it almost entirely consists of toilet waters. As for the female share, it is still divided between perfumery and toilet waters, but the latter are gaining an increasing and greater percentage.

So what is the composition of toilet water? At its base lies a solution, the content of alcohol in which can vary from 80 to 90 percent. The concentration of aromatic oils in such water is already extremely small - only 4-10 percent. Now you know what EDP and EDT are in perfume. It remains to consider what constitutes an EDC, that is, cologne.

Cologne

The cologne among all the indicated products is the least concentrated. It is made with 70% alcohol solution with the addition of a maximum of five percent aromatic oils. The smell of cologne is kept very little - even less than the toilet water, which usually does not last more than two or three hours. Thus, this product is not very common in the market and enjoys very little demand. But still, even cologne has its lovers, who constantly buy it.
