Non-contagious diseases of goldfish and methods of their treatment

Some diseases of goldfish affect them more often, some less often, but there are a number of diseases typical for these fish. As is known to all aquarists, the diseases of aquarium fish are divided into infectious and non-contagious. Infectious diseases of goldfish are subdivided into invasive diseases caused by animal organisms (protozoa, unicellular, arthropod and parasitic worms) and infectious diseases caused by micro-borders of plant origin (viruses, bacteria, fungi, unicellular algae).

Very often the diagnosis of a diseased fish can only be established after laboratory tests. In the case of a disease of goldfish, it is better to immediately consult an ichthyologist or other specialists.

Non-contagious diseases of fish aquarium gold can be caused by improper conditions of detention, improper feeding, exposure to chemicals, mechanical injuries (injuries). Having established the cause of the disease, any aquarist can promptly eliminate the factors that caused him and thereby cure his fish.

Non-contagious diseases of goldfish can be acute and chronic. The most common non-communicable diseases include:

1. Gas embolism (an overabundance of oxygen).

Symptoms: blisters on the body, lethargy or restless behavior, slowing movements of the gill covers.

Treatment (prevention): eliminate excess oxygen.

2. Asphyxia (lack of oxygen).

Symptoms: fish at the surface of the water swallow the air for a long time, worsening appetite, bulging out the gills, slowing growth.

Treatment (prevention): water substitution (30% of the aquarium volume), increased aeration, cooling of water, decrease in the number of fish, removal of organic matter from the bottom.

3. Overcooling or overheating.

Symptoms: when hypothermia - lethargy, the fish lie on the bottom, deterioration of appetite; When overheating: rapid breathing, fish swallow air on the surface of the water.

Goldfish is referred to cold-water fish. Do not overheat or overcool the water. Temperature changes can cause a temperature shock, leading to the death of fish.

4. Stress.

Symptoms: lying on the bottom, fearfulness, erratic movements, mucus secretion, pinching fins, loss of appetite, nervousness.

Treatment (prevention): eliminate the factors that caused stress.

5. Alkalosis (too alkaline environment) and acidosis (too acidic environment).

Symptoms of alkalosis: anxiety, impaired coordination, mucus secretion, seizures, scratching on stones and decor, corneal opacity.

Symptoms of acidosis: the excited state of the fish becomes over time oppressed, slowing movements of the gill covers, loss of coordination, mucus secretion.

Treatment (prevention): set the pH value and change the water.

6. Poisoning with nitrates, ammonia and nitrites.

Symptoms of nitrate poisoning: lethargy, scratching on stones, decreased appetite, twitching fins.

Symptoms of poisoning with ammonia: excitability, acceleration of the movements of the gill covers, red veins on the fins, hemorrhage in the eyes.

Symptoms of nitrite poisoning cramps, acceleration of movements of gill covers, twitching fins.

Treatment (prevention): replace water and create normal conditions of maintenance (moderate feeding, living plants, biofiltration, soil cleaning, aeration).

7. Overfeeding.

Goldfish are gluttonous, but they can not be overfed. They can get obesity or inflammation of the gastrointestinal, leading to the death of fish.

Symptoms: lack of mobility, inflammation of the anal opening, a significant increase in the abdomen, mucous red feces (with air bubbles), a "flip-flop" (the fish loses balance, pushes to the surface of the water, floats on its side, to the top by the belly or upside down).

Treatment (prevention): moderate feeding, variety of diet, soaking dry food before feeding, unloading day. Inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract is treated with starvation for 3-7 days.

8. Injuries.

Symptoms: wounds on the body and eyes, ruptured fins, loss of scales, abrasions.

Treatment (prevention): the isolation of fish, the processing of fish with drugs designed to accelerate the regeneration of tissues and prevent the occurrence of fungi (methylene blue).

Non-contagious diseases of goldfish are in our power to prevent, creating the most optimal conditions for their maintenance.
