Multimedia technologies - a new way of processing and storing information

Since modern computers have become part of everyday life, a new concept has emerged - "multimedia", which has three different interpretations. First of all, this term means a fundamentally new way of storing information. Multimedia is a virtual container, which contains a symbiosis of audio, video, graphic and text files. The second meaning of the word includes all the equipment for working with different files, that is, all possible multimedia technologies. Thirdly, speaking of multimedia, we mean a finished product in which all types of data are combined. Such a product can be called a presentation, an encyclopedia, an expanded and illustrated catalog. Most often, multimedia products are recorded on CDs or DVDs and contain systematized and easily accessible information. With the help of an intuitive system of links, any user can find the necessary information in such a directory or encyclopedia.

Multimedia technology is the sum of the means, which give huge opportunities and advantages in the field of storage and presentation of information. They allow you to process completely different types of data on a personal computer . One of the main advantages of such technologies is the ability to store large amounts of various information on a regular CD. Usually this medium carries 20 volumes of text, 2,000 graphic files, up to 45 minutes of video or about seven hours of audio. Another advantage of multimedia is the availability of tools for working with any type of files. Multimedia technology allows you to enlarge any image fragment, compare two graphic objects or create "hot words" for instant information search. The same great opportunities are available for working with video files. The user can cut out a piece of video or compile his movie from several parts.

All multimedia applications are divided into linear and interactive. A linear application can be called a presentation recorded on a disk. Looking at it, the audience can not influence the speaker or make any comments. But the online presentation is an interactive product. The speaker has the opportunity to answer questions, accompanying them with visual information.

Multimedia technologies are used in the most diverse spheres of modern life. Multimedia is widely used in engineering. Developers of computer programs and applications use them for training or entertainment. On the basis of multimedia programs with a friendly interface are created, identification systems for banking, security, trade and other spheres of activity. In the industry, multimedia is used to train staff, create product catalogs and advertisements, and in medicine, they can create simulators of operations. Together with the technology of tomography, they help to effectively research our body.

The most widely used multimedia technologies in education. For this sphere, various encyclopedias, reference books and training programs are created. There is a methodology that combines educational programs with entertainment. There was also a so-called multimedia training, the possibilities of which are almost endless. Throughout the school curriculum interactive lessons based on an interactive presentation have been introduced. A training course in media convergence, a complex of rapidly developing disciplines, taught at universities around the globe, has also been formed.

Thus, multimedia technology has long become an important part of modern science and education, they continue to develop rapidly, conquering all new areas of human activity.
