Monument to the ruble, Tomsk: description

Money is also a part of history, therefore both notes and coins are put on monuments not only in Russia, but throughout the world. For example, Canadians paid tribute to the dollar three times, the people of Virginia - a golden sovereign. Even a 5-cent coin has its own likeness. In the German Borken, they expressed their nostalgia for the dojmark, placing a tombstone on it, and in Frankfurt am Main a monument to its successor, the euro, flaunts.

Echoing the words of the classic, you can say: "About times, about values!" Although most of these monuments are not set in order to bow to a bill, but entertainment for the sake of people to have something to gawk at and make a couple of photos.

Russian monetary units, "clad" in metal

Russia also noted in this field. Naturally, here the monuments of primordially Russian monetary units are popular. For example, in Novokuznetsk there is a pedestal depicting a copper nickle of 1619 year of coinage. He is one year younger than the city itself.

Most of the monuments are executed in a jocular manner. For example, in Novgorod they created a whole ode of cabbage, but not the one that grows in the garden, but the one that can be earned. There, on one of the central streets "grows" three heads, some of which are made in the form of rubles, dollars and euros. On the main square of Krasnodar and at all lies a bronze purse with money. In Moscow, a coin was commemorated with a denomination of five cents, and with it the student superstition that putting such a one in a boot, you can successfully pass the exam.

But are there monuments to the main running Russian banknote? Naturally.

Monuments of the ruble in Russia

So far, only four cities have received such honor: Dimitrovgrad, Syktyvkar, Krasnoyarsk and Tomsk. All these monuments are works of the 2000s. Dimitrovgrad was the first to implement this venture in 2004. The monument to the ruble (Tomsk) was established 4 years later. Krasnoyarsk took over the baton in 2011, and in Syktyvkar the attraction appeared only recently - in 2015.

In the cultural capital of the Volga region, he stands on a pedestal in front of the Sberbank building and is executed in the form of two capital letters "P", which are an abbreviation for the phrase "Russian ruble". In the Republic of Komi, a graphic symbol of the ruble was installed to popularize the national currency. If in Dimitrovgrad and Syktyvkar monuments are erected in honor of the ruble as a monetary unit in total, then in Krasnoyarsk, a 10-ruble note (it is an unspoken symbol of the city) was immortalized in bronze, the issue of which was discontinued. It lies on the asphalt, as if someone accidentally dropped it.

And what can I say about another ruble monument (Tomsk)? Where is he in the city and what is unique?

Who owned the idea

Every year in Tomsk, a carnival is held timed to the Independence Day of Russia, which is celebrated every year on June 12. As part of this celebration in 2008, the organizers of this event decided to open this very monument - the Tomsk media holding "Advertising Digest". This association includes local and state media representatives, a printing house, a souvenir production company, etc. This holding is interested in the development of Tomsk as a tourist center of Siberia. Its logo is carved on the reverse side of the ruble (this is such a clever advertisement). Of course, all this would be impossible without the assistance of the administration. Now the new ruble monument (Tomsk) is one of the good goals - gives tourists another reason to visit the city.

Description

The monument is executed in a realistic manner. This is a copy of the modern monetary unit in a scale of 1: 100. On the front side the denomination of the coin is denoted, in fact, "1 ruble", and on the back there is a two-headed eagle, the year of issue is 2007 and the "Bank of Russia" marking. Thus, even an occasional guest of the city, who does not know anything about the sights, will immediately understand, in honor of which it is staged.

And what is the monument to the ruble made in Tomsk? For the material, it was not traditional bronze, but pine. By the way, to protect the tree from moisture, it was covered with a specially water-repellent liquid, and later the whole structure was placed in a plastic sarcophagus for reliability.

You can not put such a coin in a purse: it weighs more than 250 kilograms, and its height reaches 2 meters. It is thanks to these indicators that it was entered in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest sample of a wooden ruble. Fortunately, the organizers of the Tomsk carnival filed an application.

Why is the ruble wooden?

Immediately there are associations with the phrase that arose in the late 80's, denoting either money that quickly depreciates, or those that could not be converted into foreign currency.

But here the symbolism is different: everything is in the architecture of the city. The fact is that Tomsk has always been a rich forest, after all it's still a Siberian city. Naturally, most buildings were cheaper to build from wood. Such a development in many ways still determines the architectural face of Tomsk. Dozens of houses and remarkable examples of wooden architecture have survived in the city to this day. So the monument to the ruble is called to remind of such an architectural heritage.

Monument to the ruble (Tomsk): address

Since its opening in 2008, he peacefully stood on Novosobornaya Square. This is the historic center of the city. It was here that hundreds of tourists came to see this landmark. But, unfortunately, not everyone treats with respect for cultural values, and in 2014 the vandals spoiled this creation: they broke the sarcophagus and jotted garbage into it. Who and for what purpose did this is unknown.

At the same time a ruble monument (Tomsk) was removed for restoration. For a year the townspeople and tourists waited for his return. After the repair was done, its location changed, and now it is not in its original place. The restored ruble monument (Tomsk) was first presented to the public near the Mom Philharmonic. This was done April 17, 2015 in the exhibition "Your personal finances" (that is, everything is symbolic). But a few days later he was placed in the reconstruction of the Tomsk fortress near the museum of the history of the city (there it is more reliable).

Other sights of Tomsk

In general, the residents of the city with a sense of humor all right. They like monuments, which are an expression of informal culture. And the ruble monument (Tomsk) is not the only one of its kind: residents and visitors of the city are touched by sculptural creations dedicated to happiness, slippers, a pregnant woman, an electrician, a janitor, a baby in cabbage, a football fan and many others.

All these sculptures, as well as the ruble monument (Tomsk), are relatively young, most Russians did not see them personally. So why not plan a trip there as a weekend tour? A lot of fun and lots of photos are guaranteed.
