Microsoft Office Limited Functionality Mode

Probably, many of you, when working with documents in Microsoft Office, faced with such a concept as a mode of limited functionality. But what is it? And can we remove this mode? This is for us to learn.

In short, the limited functionality mode is a special option that does not support the old formats of some documents in the new version of Word. This means that when the user opens documents in Word 2010, as well as those created in older versions of the application, it automatically displays a "limited functionality mode" in the title bar, that is, compatibility mode is turned on.

Enabling it is a guarantee that while working with a particular document, the extended and newer features that are available in Word 2010 will not be used. But at the same time, the limited functionality mode of Office allows users to edit and amend the texts created in Earlier versions of the application. In addition, this mode preserves the overall structure of documents.

I want to say that you can not disable it. But there is a chance to enable the compatibility mode option of this version of the application with older Word files. The limited functionality mode in this case can be automatically disabled. But how is this to be understood? Let's learn more.

The thing is that a Word 2010 document can be opened in one of three modes. Namely:

1. First - documents created in Word 2010.

2. The second is documents created in Word 2007, but having compatibility mode.

3. Third - created in Word 97, having a similar mode.

Compatibility mode allows you to work with documents from older versions of the application and use all the extensions of Word 2010. If it happened that when you open the text in the line of its title there is an inscription "limited functionality", then you need to do some work to determine whether this file is compatible With the new version of the program, and therefore, remove the restrictions.

To do this, you need to open the "File" tab and select the "Details" item. Then go to the section "Prepare for common access", select "Search problems" and click this button. After that, select the "Compatibility check" command and then click "Select the versions to be displayed". Here, near the name of the mode of the document that you have opened, a tick will appear. And if after that the inscription in the title line "limited functionality mode" disappears, then we can assume that the document is compatible with the application version, which means that all the functions of the program are available.

You can continue to work on these documents. But if necessary, you can also convert it. To do this, just select the "Convert" command, and after that all the compatibility parameters in Word are cleared. That's when the layout of your document will look like it was created in Word 2010.

Note that if your file is in Doc format, then in the case of the new version of the program you need to convert it to DocX format. But in principle, the conversion command should automatically change this format.

And if you still do not understand how to make a document conversion, then in this case a step-by-step plan of how to do this will be presented:

1. Go to the "File" tab.

2. Locate the "Details" tab and click on it.

3. Click on the "Convert" command.

Everything, the document is altered under that format which is necessary for you. And in order to create another copy of this file, do the following:

1. Click on the "File" tab.

2. Select "Save As".

3. In the empty line of the "File name" field, enter the name of your document.

4. In the "File type" list, select "Word Document".

Everything, there is nothing complicated. Now you can work in the mode that you need.
