Medicinal preparation 'Flagil', instructions for use, methods of administration and dosage

The drug "Flagil" is an antiprotozoal antibacterial drug. The drug is administered in the form of white coated tablets. The composition of the drug includes metronidazole - an active substance that determines its basic properties, and auxiliaries: magnesium stearate, wheat starch, hypromellose, povidone K30.

Pharmacological actions of the preparation "Flagil" instruction stipulate its high antibacterial activity, the mechanism of action of the drug consists in the biochemical reduction of a special group of metronidazole with the help of intracellular transport proteins, which eventually leads to the death of microorganisms. Metronidazole is highly active to many parasites, this group includes Trichomonas vaginalis, Lamblia intestinalis, Giardia intestinalis and some obligate anaerobes. There is no high activity of the drug for aerobes and facultative anaerobic microorganisms.

Almost immediately after taking a complete absorption of the drug "Flagil" is observed, the instruction for use indicates that the time of ingestion does not affect the assimilation of the medicine. Its high concentration is noted in the lungs, skin, liver and kidneys, in seminal and cerebrospinal fluid, in saliva and vaginal secretions. Metabolization of metronidazole occurs through oxidation in the liver, the drug is excreted mainly in the urine (about 70%), the time interval, from admission to the final withdrawal, is 12 hours.

Among the indications for the use of the drug "Flagil" the instruction calls such infectious diseases as:

Urogenital trichomoniasis;

- Giardiasis;

- amebiasis;

Non-specific vaginitis.

Depending on the type and degree of infection, the dosage regimen and duration of administration of the preparation "Flagil" depend. Tablets of 2 pcs. Adults take 3 times a day for a week with amoebiasis. With giardiasis, the term is reduced to 5 days in a daily dose equal to 1 g. Trichomoniasis (vaginitis, urethritis) in women, urethritis in men - 2 tablets in a ten-day period.

In some cases, treatment with intravaginal drugs in the form of suppositories is prescribed for the treatment of urogenital infections .

Side effects may make it more difficult to treat with Flagil, the instruction contains information on possible negative manifestations from the side:

- CNS, there is a headache and dizziness, in rare cases - confusion, convulsions, hallucinations.

- the digestive system, rarely there is nausea and mouth metallic taste, diarrhea, vomiting and anorexia.

Single cases of allergic reactions in the form of pruritus and urticaria are known, and leukopenia occurs with a particularly prolonged treatment with the drug. If you stop taking the medication, the symptoms disappear almost immediately.

To the contra-indications to the use of the preparation "Flagil" the instruction relates:

- hypersensitivity to metronidazole;

- the period of pregnancy and breastfeeding (due to the release of metronidazole through breast milk);

Among the special instructions should be noted the abolition of alcoholic beverages during the period of treatment, strict control over the formula of blood. Due to possible side effects in the form of dizziness and headache, it is not recommended to administer during the period of drug treatment by any means of transport.

To date, there are no recommendations for treatment with an overdose of the drug Flagil, in such cases it is symptomatic. It is strictly forbidden to take medication simultaneously with medications containing ethanol (as well as alcohol), this can cause an effect similar to that of disulfiram (severe fever, tachycardia and vomiting).
