Management solutions: typology

Management decisions are the choice of the manager's goals and the identification of those factors that ensure their achievement. They can be classified according to certain types in the event that they have some single sign that is characteristic of a large number of them.

Let's consider in more detail how the typology of managerial decisions is singled out for a number of indicators, which makes it possible to establish several groups. They are few, but each has a set of specific characteristics.

The first group. Management decisions are distinguished by the degree of development:

  • The programmed ones are taken as a result of successive steps by a standard method or by clear rules developed in advance.
  • Unprogrammed will require the formation of a new procedure or principles. Leaders need to take them in unique and new problem situations.

The second group. Solutions can be classified by the degree of justification. Based on this criterion, they are divided into the following:

  • Intuitive (subconscious), which are taken by the leaders on the basis of the idea that they are doing the right thing;
  • Logical will be developed on the basis of experience, knowledge and judgment;
  • Rational are based on an objective analysis of problematic complex situations, using scientific methods and computer technologies.

The third group. Management decisions are classified according to the possibility of their implementation:

  • Permissible can satisfy any constraints and be implemented in practice;
  • Inadmissible (unrealistic) do not meet a number of restrictions.

Fourth group. Management decisions are classified by the degree of achievement of the final goal. They may be:

  • Unreasonable (unacceptable), which do not lead to the result;
  • Satisfactory, leading to the achievement of the ultimate goal and providing an acceptable result;
  • The optimal leader chooses in the event that an ideal solution is achieved.

Fifth group. Management decisions are also highlighted on the basis of innovation:

  • Routine, which are taken on the basis of known methods of action;
  • Selective based on the choice of a single alternative from a specific set;
  • Adaptive ones are accepted, if the situation requires some modification of the generally accepted variants;
  • Innovative will be allocated under special conditions, if the problem can not be solved with the help of known principles of action, requiring the formation of new options that are not used until now.

The sixth group. Management decisions are classified by the scale of the changes that are made to the organization. Based on this parameter, the following are distinguished:

  • Situational, which will not provide for global changes and are associated with the resolution of current problems in the organization;
  • Reorganization include the application of significant measures (restructuring of the entire structure, development of another strategy in the company).

The seventh group. Management decisions are classified by the time of their action. Based on this, there are:

  • Strategic, which are aimed at achieving the long-term goal of the organization ;
  • Tactical pursue the implementation of medium-term, intermediate tasks of the company;
  • Operational takes the manager daily in order to achieve short-term goals and perform ongoing work in the organization.

Eighth group. Management decisions can be divided in accordance with the scope of the company. So, the following are distinguished:

  • Production;
  • Marketing;
  • Financial.

Therefore, the quality of management decisions will depend on the properly selected type.
