LLC "Ural Diesel Engine Plant": production, products, reviews

LLC "Ural Diesel Engine Plant" is a large domestic manufacturer of high-capacity diesel power units for locomotives, ships, small power plants. Located in the city of Yekaterinburg. It is part of the Sinara group of companies.

Historical reference

The foundation of the Ural diesel-engine plant (UDMZ) is associated with the Great Patriotic War. In 1941 the Kharkov plant No. 75 and the motor site of the Kirov (Leningrad) plant were evacuated to Yekaterinburg. On their basis the production of tank power units В2-34 was founded.

After the war UDMZ specialized in the production of powerful unique engines of the DM-21 series. They were used on BelAZ trucks, specialized equipment (in particular, in tractors ChTZ T-800 with a pull force of 75 tons), in power plants. In the 90's mastered the manufacture of diesel engines for ships.

The entry of the Ural Diesel-Engine Plant into the structure of the Sinara Group of Companies (2008) facilitated the modernization of production facilities, the opening of new workshops, and the attraction of investments. Since 2012 UDMZ has been producing a new series of power units DM-185, which correspond to the best world standards.

Designing new motors

To develop diesel engines of the DM-185 family, the Ural diesel-engine plant started in 2012. Within the framework of the target federal program, the enterprise signed a contract with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to produce basic samples of high-speed diesel engines of a new generation.

In a short time, an industrial site was set up for the production of units and components, as well as assembly of power units. In addition to the specialists of the Ural diesel-engine plant, the Central Research Institute of Diesels, MSTU, Ufa, the German engineering company FEV took part in the development. In total, the project involved more than a hundred designers, 30 engineers, investments exceeded 2 billion rubles. Such fruitful cooperation made it possible to implement advanced engineering solutions in the design.

Specifications

At the moment, the DM-185 family consists of 9 engine models with a wide range of power characteristics (from 1000 to 4000 kW) and 7 diesel generators. The number of cylinders varies from 6 to 20, depending on the modification and the field of application. Further, the maximum power of some models is planned to be increased to 6000 kW.

Production

The first high-speed 12-cylinder diesel locomotive 12DM-185T was assembled in October 2014. A month later, he was subjected to comprehensive tests that showed compliance with the required characteristics.

The next in the Urals diesel-engine plant assembled a 16-cylinder modification of 16DM-185T2 with a two-stage turbo-supercharging capacity of 3740 kW. The power unit is intended for use in diesel locomotive building. In July 2015, the engine much needed by Russian engineering was presented to the Prime Minister, DA Medvedev, at the forum Innoprom.

In parallel, work was carried out on the 12DM-185A motor for BelAZ dump trucks. This project has broad prospects within the framework of interstate cooperation of the countries of the Customs Union. It is designed to reduce dependence on foreign quarry equipment and imported components.

Production complex

A large-scale modernization program is being carried out at the Ural Diesel-Motor Plant. The old production buildings were repaired outside and inside. The equipment is partially replaced, the testing station is updated. Created 100 highly skilled jobs.

The pride of the plant was a modern site for assembling, running DM-185 engines and diesel generators, temporary storage of products. High-precision measuring complexes for monitoring the parameters of engine components are mounted here.

Besides:

  • Modernization of all engineering systems was carried out.
  • Production logistics is optimized.
  • The production capacities are doubled - up to 300 units.
  • Updated warehouse equipment.
  • Wash-painting chambers were built.
  • The old ones have been modernized and new bridge cranes equipped with a radio control system have been installed.

At the experimental assembly site, there are universal stands for the manufacture of power units. Multi-tonnages can easily be moved around the shop using transport systems on air cushions controlled by one worker.

Test station

The quality of the assembled motors is checked on the unique automated stands. During the reconstruction of the testing station, modern equipment was introduced. It:

  • Engineering block, located near the production and testing sites.
  • Research booth for 1-cylinder engines up to 408 kW.
  • Stands of functional and resource tests for engines and generators with a capacity of 3000-4000 kW.

Ural diesel-engine plant: reviews

The workers of the plant note a decent level of earnings (especially among highly qualified employees), working conditions in the updated sites are comparable with those in European enterprises. The introduction of mechanization and the installation of new equipment facilitated the labor of workers.

Today UDMZ is a sample of a modern enterprise, where equal attention is paid to labor productivity, product quality, working conditions, industrial culture and safety engineering. It is not surprising that the plant is a desirable place of work for both representatives of working professions and for engineering staff.
