"Levomekol" ointment: what is the drug used for?

"Levomekol" ointment is a remedy for external use, which was developed back in the late 70s of the last century. Who is shown this drug? What are the features of using Levomekol? What is it used for? We will discuss these questions in the article.

Ingredients

"Levomekol" ointment is a combined medicine, it contains two active ingredients: the immunostimulant methyluracil and the antibiotic chloramphenicol, in 1 g of the drug contain 40 mg and 7.5 mg, respectively. Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic with a wide spectrum of action, and thanks to methyluracil, trophic tissue is improved and the process of skin regeneration is activated .

Pharmacological action of the drug

Ointment "Levomekol" (from which it is used, will be described below) is able to penetrate deeply into the skin, without damaging the biological membranes. It has a complex action: anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, regenerative. The drug is active against rickettsia, chlamydia, spirochete, and also the majority of both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Bacteriostatic action of the ointment is achieved due to the inhibition of protein synthesis in the cell of a harmful microorganism. In this case, the presence of a large number of necrotic masses and pus does not affect the antimicrobial effect of the ointment.

Levomekol: what is it used for?

Ointment should be used in the following cases:

  • Herpes. One of the main indications of the medication is the treatment of purulent-inflammatory dermatological diseases. Therefore, the ointment "Levomekol" from herpes can be used. The positive effect is achieved due to the anti-inflammatory effect of the drug. The drug works exactly where it is needed, that is, directly at the site of inflammation, the pus that is released does not affect the effectiveness of the drug.

  • Furuncles. Quite often doctors prescribe the ointment "Levomekol" from boils. Apply it to the previously cleared any antiseptic affected area of the skin. Under the action of the drug, edema of surrounding tissues decreases, due to the presence of an antibiotic, the agent will act on pathogenic microorganisms, thus "pulling" the purulent contents from the boil.

  • Hemorrhoids. In the acute form of the disease, the drug helps to relieve inflammation, eliminate pathogenic microflora, and speed up the recovery of affected tissues.

  • Burns. In this case, the ointment "Levomecol" is used to prevent infection of affected surfaces, accelerate the regeneration and tissue healing.

  • Gynecological diseases. This medication can be used for inflammation of the uterine appendages, inflammatory erosion of the cervix, divergence of the vaginal sutures that are applied after the operation or ruptures during childbirth. In such situations, tampons with Levomekol medicine are used.

What else can this drug be used for? In addition to the above cases, the tool is recommended to be applied to cuts, seams, pressure sores, calluses and other skin lesions. This will help prevent infection and accelerate the healing of wounds.

Recommendations for use

The medication is used exclusively externally. A thin layer of ointment is applied to the affected surface, then the treated area is covered with a sterile gauze folded in several layers or with a clean cloth. Treatment of infected surfaces is carried out 1-2 times a day, until the wound is cleared of purulent contents. As a rule, the treatment lasts 5-10 days. In the presence of a deep, large wound or if it is located in the body cavity ointment is applied to gauze wipes, which are injected into the wound surface. For this, the composition is preheated to body temperature (about 35 ° C). After that, the gauze wipes impregnated with the composition are injected into the wound. If the skin damage is deep and narrow and it is impossible to insert the tissues treated with the drug, then the ointment is injected with a syringe through the catheter. To do this, insert a drainage rubber tube into the wound, into which a disposable syringe filled with medicine is inserted, and squeeze the ointment inside. By drain it will fall to the very bottom of the wound. On the treated areas of the body, a fixative bandage is applied. Change the napkins to new ones as the necrotic masses accumulate on them and impregnate them with pus.

Side effect

The drug "Levomekol" is a little reagent, therefore side effects occur infrequently. In rare cases, allergic reactions may occur at the site of application of the ointment, which manifest reddening of the skin, itching, rash.
