Kiritsy (Ryazan region): a children's sanatorium for tuberculosis patients in an old manor house

Spassky district of the Ryazan region is often called "local Switzerland". Such a loud popular name this area has gotten thanks to picturesque landscapes and favorable climatic and ecological conditions. It is here in the village of the same name that the sanatorium "Kiritsy" is located. The Ryazan region is famous for its abundance of ancient sights, it is not surprising that the medical and health center is located in the building of an old manor.

Palace of Baron S.P. Von Dervise

In 1737, near the modern village of Kiritsa, there was a glass factory. Almost 40 years later, a mirror factory was opened in its place, successfully functioning until the customs fee was reduced for import of similar products into the country. In 1892, production closes, the factory building and all adjoining land are put up for sale. The new owner of the village of Kiritsy (Ryazan region) was the son of the well-known railroad builder Pavel Grigorievich von Derviz. After inspecting his acquisition, the baron ordered to demolish all industrial buildings and begin construction of a private mansion. The palace and park ensemble was erected and improved in the period from 1892 to 1907. The central mansion is designed in the style of early modernism. Around it were farm buildings, a church, impressive grottoes, suspension bridges across ravines, a system of ponds and a luxurious landscaped garden. S.P. Von Derviz did not live in his estate all the time, but invariably came here to relax in the summer. In 1907 the Baron felt as if something was wrong and sold all the land along with the mansion, and he immigrated abroad.

Establishment of a treatment and prevention center

The new owner of the castle in Chiritsy did not long enjoy the bargain. In 1918, the palace became a state property, it opened an agricultural school. Already in 1934 the building was transferred to the People's Commissariat of Health, originally it opened a rest home, and then a children's sanatorium for tuberculosis patients. There is this institution today, also remaining municipal. Inside, the magnificent palace today is not much different from any other sanatorium opened during the USSR. For a long time the building was not overhauled and reconstructed. However, not so long ago the facades were restored. Today, the castle pleases the eye with fresh paint, but the decorative elements (grottoes, stairs) are still not in the best condition. Sanatorium "Kiritsy" (Ryazan Region) is a municipal institution, and apparently no funds are allocated for the complete restoration of the palace and park complex. But despite this fact, the von Derviz castle is a well-known "informal" landmark of the region, and many tourists come here to admire the facade and photograph it at least from afar.

Treatment profiles and conditions for patients

Today the sanatorium occupies an area equal to 275 hectares. Children aged 2 to 18 years are eligible for treatment. Children's sanatorium of Kiritsa specializes in the treatment of non-pulmonary forms of tuberculosis, namely: tuberculosis of bones and joints, genitourinary system, eyes, peripheral lymph nodes. Also, in the medical-health institution, the consequences of the diseases listed above are corrected. There are four buildings on the territory of the sanatorium, three of them are intended for accommodation and treatment of patients with tuberculosis of the musculoskeletal system, and the fourth - for patients with other diagnoses, there are also rooms for study, recreation and recreation. Sanatorium Kiritsy (Ryazan region) has its own school, the curriculum in which fully complies with state standards.
