Intravenous catheter - use

Who, if not me, talk about a catheter in a vein, if I not only put them in an ambulance, but I myself was a patient. The need for a catheter arises in cases of urgent therapy. Other indications for his statement are:

  • Prolonged intensive care,
  • "Bad" - poorly visible, poorly visualized veins.
  • The need to transport the patient, in order to protect the vessel from puncturing and bruising during movement.

Personally, I had "bad" veins. They were practically invisible, weakly probed. That's when I was given an intravenous catheter. This is because one day I underwent a long course of treatment in a military hospital, which included daily intravenous injections. With this specific treatment, veins can hide, go deeper. It so happened that I and a citizen had to be treated and on my own experience to evaluate the merits of this technique.

The intravenous catheter can be of different sizes and varieties. It is made of strong thermoplastic materials with high biocompatibility and low coefficient of friction. Due to these properties, the catheter, with proper care, can be used for several days and longer.

What is the catheterization of the vein.

The placement of an intravenous catheter provides long-term access to the bloodstream of the patient for medical workers. Such a procedure has long been out of curiosity, and up to half a million IVCs (peripheral venous catheters) are installed per year in the world. In the Russian Federation, this technique is becoming increasingly widespread and recognized by health workers and their patients.

Intravenous catheter. Advantages over a normal injection needle:

  • There is no need to regularly perform a vein puncture. Provides a stable and comfortable access to the vessel.
  • The intravenous catheter will not jump out of the blood vessel.
  • Effective and rapid administration of drugs.
  • Reduction of psychological stress on the patient.
  • Saving time for medical workers.
  • Venous walls remain intact, the occurrence of hematomas, infiltration is excluded.
  • The patient, who has an intravenous catheter, remains mobile, can move freely even with a dropper.
  • With proper care, the catheter minimizes the occurrence of severe complications.

The design of the PVK requires strict adherence to certain instructions.

  • Aseptic and antiseptic.
  • The choice of the optimal size of an intravenous catheter.
  • Implementation of reliability of fixing PVC.
  • To put a high-quality catheter intravenous.
  • Practice slow administration of medications.
  • To raise medicines before their introduction.
  • Lubricate the skin treated with alcohol over the vein anti-inflammatory gels.
  • Periodically wash the established catheter with Heparin solution.
  • Periodically, you should change the vein, which is installed PVK. In the absence of contraindications, the intravenous catheter can serve throughout the time of infusion therapy.

Establishment of ICR - creation of necessary conditions

  • Bringing the workplace in order, ensuring optimal lighting.
  • Check the expiry date of the medicines used and the materials used.
  • It is necessary to take into account the psychological factor. The patient should be informed of all the points of the subsequent manipulation, is dedicated to the essence of the procedure. It is not excluded that the patient may prefer a certain vein for catheter placement. All these aspects should be taken into account.

Selecting a suitable vein and determining the size of the intravenous catheter, you should wear a gauze dressing and prepare all the necessary tools for the catheterization. The patient should be seated or laid most comfortably. I was put in a supine position, but I wish you health!
