The processing technique - water jet cutting is based on the use of a thin water jet supplied under high pressure. In the first variant, patented in 1947 by a Soviet engineer, water was fed to the processed material in its pure form. The key factor in achieving the necessary result was enormous pressure (several thousand atmospheres). Adding granite sand to the water, along with a significant improvement in cutting parameters, allowed to reduce the pressure of the jet and thereby simplify the functional design of the processing equipment.
