How to remove red eyes and change the color of the iris in Photoshop

Almost everyone likes to be photographed, but often even on the most successful photos we look like some kind of ghouls. And all because because of the use of flash (especially in darkness or in poor light) pupils in the pictures turn out to be red. What to do and how to be? Do not delete the same good photo because of these "embers" ... Therefore, the best way to remove red eyes is Photoshop. A special function to eliminate this effect appeared in the editor only in 2005, with the release of version CS2. Therefore, we recommend that you update the program if it is out of date. In addition, in newer versions, you can find many other interesting and useful functions and effects that significantly extend the range of Photoshop application.

But let's start with correcting the color of the pupils. Before you remove the red eyes in the photo, you need to open it in the editor to start. For convenience, the picture can be magnified using the "Magnifier" function. Next, on the toolbar, find the Red Eye Tool (or the tool called the "Red Eyes"), point the cursor at the pupil and click the left mouse button. The same is done with the second eye. Everything, the red color has disappeared.

If you are not looking for easy ways, or if you have an old version, then the procedure for removing red eyes in Photoshop will be more complicated, although feasible. To do this, you should select the pupils with any of the tools, be it "Magnetic lasso", "Quick selection" or "Oval region". The latter function is even better, since it allows you to circle the pupil in an ideally even circle. Even if you did not succeed in making the outline strictly according to the contour of the pupil, there is nothing wrong with this, since it can be moved gently to the desired place by grabbing the cursor. You can also change its size. To reduce or enlarge the selected pupil, you need to go into the "Edit" and select the "Free Transformation" position. You will need to scale, so click on it. Before you remove red eyes in Photoshop, increase or decrease the pupil by pulling the transformation frame (you can drag it when a double arrow appears on the corner).

When the transformation is finished, you need to open "Image" (in the uppermost horizontal menu) and go through the following: "Correction" - "Black and White". In the window that appears, we start moving the sliders until until we completely eliminate the red color on the pupils and get the black color we need. Then click "OK".

Now you know how to remove red eyes in Photoshop. It's not so difficult. By the way, in the same way you can even change the color of your eyes. For this you need To select not the pupil, but the entire iris. To do this, just as in the previous method, go to "Image", and then select "Correction". But instead of "Black and White" click on "Color Balance". Moving sliders, you can achieve absolutely any color and eye tone, up to bright yellow, orange, purple or white.
