The exhaust system of the car is very important. Its main purpose is cylinder ventilation. Further on the way to the "smoke" there is a pair of resonators, and this "journey" ends with the exit to the atmosphere through the silencer. Let's give some attention to its design. In fact, a silencer is a tin can with various partitions inside. They form a kind of labyrinth, passing through which the gases cool down, lose speed and somewhat decrease in volume.

Often the manufacturers do not expect the exhaust system for maximum performance, then the tuners have to manufacture some parts, say, a silencer, with their own hands. What are the advantages of handicraft production before the factory? Let's consider them. The very first reason to build a silencer with your own hands is to increase its volume. In this case, the pressure of the gases at the output will drop substantially, which will lead to a noticeable decrease in the overall noise level of the car. In addition, the pressure will drop in the system. Then, the exhaust gases are easier to leave the cylinders, hence, the productivity of the power unit is slightly increased.

The second reason why it is worth making a silencer with your own hands is fabrication material. As a rule, the main reason for the failure of the exhaust system is its burn-out, because the operating temperatures are very high. Conclusion: you need to choose a material of greater thickness. This can be a pipe or sheet iron. Naturally, it is worth remembering about the weight of the product. Such a self-made muffler can last much longer than a regular one. In addition, you can change the geometry of partitions inside, which will also positively affect the performance of the whole system and the noise of the exhaust.

How to make a muffler, you can find a lot of instructions. Each of them is almost universal. This is not surprising, because a silencer can be made for one model and brand, and it will fit a dozen more. Here, in principle, the distinctions concern only the working volume of the engine, since a too small muffler simply will not cope with the volumes of gases passing through it.

But do not think that this is a win-win option, thanks to which you will never again know the problems with the exhaust system, and the engine will once again become more responsive and will not produce any sound at the same time. Everything has its drawbacks.

For example, technical inspection. With such a silencer, problems with certification can arise. If the noise levels of the work are not exceeded, then everything will be in order. The design does not affect the toxicity of the exhaust. Particular attention should be paid to fastenings: they must be elastic, and also the "bucket" should not touch the bottom of the car. Also, do not forget about the fire safety, to ensure that there will be enough asbestos sheet laid between the muffler and the bottom.
