How to disable the touchpad on a laptop

With a device with a strange name, the touchpad is familiar to all owners of laptops and netbooks. It is a capacitive touch panel that reacts to the touch and movement of fingers on it. Trying to act on the sensor with any non-conductive current object (a wooden pencil, a sheet of paper) will not produce any result. Now, in the heyday of sensory mobile phones, you will not surprise anyone. The panel is located on the case in front of the key block. Serves for a kind of replacement of a computer mouse, because when you touch and move your finger, the relative coordinates are processed by the controller and transferred to the operating system, which converts them into movement of the pointer cursor.

Owners of personal computers often do not understand where the question of how to disable the touchpad comes from. It seems to be all right - the mouse is not needed, because everything is always at hand. In fact, this is the problem - that "everything is at hand." When working with the keyboard of the laptop, casual touches of the palm to the touchpad are inevitable. As a result, the cursor moves independently, stumbling and interfering with the work.

Sometimes people just get bored with watching this and look for the answer to the question of how to disable the touchpad, and the mouse is bought (often wireless), and the touch panel is sealed with paper or even a piece of plastic. The decision, of course, is effective, but it does not add to the convenience (believe me). It turns out that there are a number of other ways to disable the touchpad. Each user can choose an acceptable one.

One of the most convenient ways to disable the touchpad, implemented in all modern notebook models - with a special combination of keys. Most likely, every owner of a laptop computer paid attention to additional notation on some keys, which is not entirely clear how to use. It's simple: among the buttons there is always a special one, labeled Fn. If you press it and any other with an incomprehensible notation, you can not only turn off the touchpad, but also control the brightness of the screen, adjust the sound, etc. Usually the symbols are intuitive and do not cause unnecessary questions. So, to disable the touchpad, you need to press Fn + F7 (firm Acer). The combination may vary depending on the laptop manufacturer. By the way, to restore the performance of the panel you need to press the same combination. Important: the disabled touchpad remains in this position for as long as you like, no reinstallations of operating systems and drivers will return it to life. If the touch panel does not respond to touch, it's worth trying to turn it on with the above combination.

The next way to disable the touchpad is to make adjustments in the BIOS. Immediately after turning on the laptop, you need to press the F1 button (again, depending on the manufacturer). In BIOS, we search for the line Pointing Device and prohibit the use of the sensor. We remain and we leave.

You can also disable it programmatically on the system itself. To do this, follow the settings in the control panel and turn off the touch pad. This method works if you have installed the appropriate controller driver (for example, Synaptics) that supports this function. In addition, there are third-party programs on the Web, such as Touchfreeze. The disadvantage is the need to search, download and configure something.

The most cardinal method is to disassemble the laptop and physically disconnect the cable that connects the motherboard and touchpad. True, this makes it difficult to re-enable, because the disassembly operation is rather complicated and often nobody will perform it. Recommend this method is possible only if the sensor is defective and in vain takes away part of the resources.
