How is the grinding done?

Grinding the timber is one of the most important processes in the construction of a wooden cottage. It allows you to remove the bark from the uneven bars, make them perfectly even and attractive, and also eliminate various defects. In addition, grinding can significantly increase the performance characteristics of this material, and make it more durable.

Nowadays, many companies provide professional services for polishing bars, but their cost is very high, so many people think about how to qualitatively polish wood at home. If you adhere to the basic tips and recommendations that will be given later, then grinding the house out of the beam with your own hands will be no worse than when ordering similar services from construction companies.

Why do I need to sand the timber?

The surface of the wooden beam has a roughness, which is a common occurrence and is manifested as a result of sawing wood on the machine. If you perform these works manually, then hairiness can be avoided, but there will be considerably more defects on the tree, which will significantly reduce the quality and durability of the bar.

At external furnish, the hairiness can be hidden with a lining, but inside the room it will ruin the whole aesthetics and attractiveness of the interior. In addition, in the areas of chips and cracks, ideal conditions for the appearance of fungus, mold and various microorganisms will be created.

Grinding the timber inside the house helps not only to avoid all this, but also to achieve the following:

  • Make the walls inside the house perfectly smooth;
  • Eliminate various defects;
  • To get rid of fungal spores before impregnation of wood with antiseptic means;
  • To improve the quality of the clutch of the beam with paint and varnish materials;
  • To give the tree a more attractive appearance and to emphasize its texture.

Despite all the above advantages, which provides the grinding of the timber inside the building, many experienced builders recommend that before it is done a little wait until the building is seated. This is quite understandable, however, if the defects that are on the beam are not immediately eliminated, then they can become much larger, as a result of which it will be impossible to achieve an aesthetic appearance in the future.

The only way out of this situation will be to remove a fairly thick layer from the beam, which not only requires great physical and time costs, but also negatively affects the performance characteristics of the tree. Therefore, the polishing of the timber should be performed immediately after the completion of the construction of a country house.

What tools will be required in the process of grinding the walls?

For grinding to be performed as quickly and as qualitatively as possible, you will need to acquire the following tools:

  • Grinding machine;
  • Belt sanding machine;
  • A Bulgarian with nozzles for woodwork;
  • Chisel and nazhdachka.

Grinding machine is a professional tool designed for working with a profiled beam. It allows you to perform all the work very qualitatively, but its purchase will cost about 150 thousand rubles. This amount may not be all affordable, so the best solution is to rent it. For working with glued beams, a belt grinder is used, the average cost of which is approximately two thousand rubles.

If your budget does not allow you to purchase specialized equipment, the grinding of the walls from the bar can be performed using an electric drill and a grinding head, which is included in the factory equipment of almost all Bulgarians.

Grinding is carried out in stages using jigs with different levels of rigidity. First of all, the log is grinded with a No. 80 nozzle intended for primary processing, after which a nozzle No. 120 is used, which will give the tree an ideal appearance.

General advice and recommendations for grinding wooden beams

To ensure that after sanding the bar meets all your expectations, you should follow the following tips and recommendations:

  1. Sanding of walls from a bar should be started after the roof has been erected. This is very important, because during the construction of the roof on the walls may appear various defects, which will have to be eliminated again.
  2. It is strictly forbidden to grind the dried timber, because it only spoils the nozzles, and the result of the work done will hardly satisfy you. An exception can be a tree felled in winter.
  3. If, after finishing the construction work, the wood has acquired a blue tinge, then first it should be bleached with abrasive materials, and only then you can start grinding.
  4. After the grinding of the timber is completed, it is necessary to treat the walls with a special antiseptic. If this is not done, the wood will darken.

Observing these recommendations, you can qualitatively polish the walls of your cottage, and they will acquire a completely different look, which will give the interior a very original, natural and attractive appearance.

The process of grinding walls from a wooden beam

Now you have a detailed idea of all the nuances with which the grinding of the bar is connected, so you can start the process of performing the work. To make the final result qualitative, grinding should be carried out strictly in a certain sequence, which will be presented later.

Stage one: grinding end

The end of the house is subject to the influence of negative environmental factors more than the rest of its parts, therefore it is necessary to start the grinding process from it. If this step is omitted, the tree, having absorbed moisture, will swell very strongly and begin to crack. To prevent this from happening, the ends must first be ground with a high-rigidity nozzle, then treated with a nozzle designed for finishing work, and at the very end polished. When the grinding of the ends is completed, the wood needs to be treated with special antiseptics.

Processing of laminated veneer lumber

Grinding of glued beams must be carried out immediately after the completion of the construction work. This is due to the fact that this material has a low resistance to external stimuli. If the glued bar dries, then fibers will stick out of it, which will not allow sanding the wood to a perfectly flat state.

Profiled beam processing

If the country house was built of coniferous trees, the grinding of the profiled bar can be performed with the help of attachments of any rigidity. However, there is one important nuance. If you have purchased a material that has been treated with antiseptic, then after finishing the grinding, the impregnation of the tree will have to be repeated.

Grinding process: step by step guide

If after the erection of the cottage on the bar remained bark, then it must necessarily be removed. To do this, you can use a chisel or a grinder with a special abrasive nozzle .

When the bar is ready for grinding, the wood is first treated with a high rigidity nozzle that will eliminate the pigment resulting in the blackening of the wood. Then the finishing is finished, after which the bar will be perfectly smooth. If any defect is found on the material, then the tree should be treated with a special vibration mount.

At the final stage, the bar is treated with an antiseptic, which will protect it from rot, mold, mold and other pests. It should be noted that impregnation with an antiseptic should be carried out within a week after grinding, otherwise the wood will change its natural color, because of what all have to be repeated at first.

As it turned out, it is not so hard to make the polishing of the beam. In the process of work, the main thing is to follow certain instructions and observe the safety procedures.
