It is interesting that the purely visual perception of the image of the great poet by the admirers of his work does not coincide with the description of his appearance in the memoirs of his contemporaries. From portraits and book pages the face of a handsome young man with huge eyes, containing all the world sorrow, looks with a beautiful smooth face, black well-groomed hair. And contemporaries say that Lermontov was extremely ugly, short, bow-legged and even lame, according to some reports - hunchbacked, with rare hair, with too much head. What they write about his poisonous nature is a separate story. About these and other interesting facts about Lermontov read in this article.

Childhood

The great Russian poet, according to biographers, was not entirely Russian, he had Scottish roots, and his ancestors bore the surname of Lerma. His grandmother Elizaveta Arsenyeva, the maid of honor of Her Majesty, did not approve of the marriage of her daughter with Yuri Lermontov, considering it more uneven. Mikhail was born on October 3 (15), 1814, and lived incomplete 27 years. He grew morbid, and my grandmother literally nursed her grandson in her estate in Tarkhany, took her to the healing waters, where he received his first impressions of the Caucasus, which had a huge impact on his life and work. At the age of 12, as the facts of Lermontov's biography say, he was brought back to Moscow to enter the boarding school for noble noble children. He studied there for two years, there he showed his abilities in reading and poetry.

Family Curse

His grandfather, MV Arseniev, drank a deadly poison right behind the family table. To which his wife reacted in a peculiar way: "A dog is a dog's death." Could she know that in due time the Emperor would repeat the same words when she heard of the death of her beloved grandson ...

The family doctor recalled that at the time of Michael's birth, the midwife said for some reason: "This child will not die by his death." And many ominous signs and omens were hovering over the family. Lermontov's mother died at the age of 21, when he was still a three-year old child, just went to the grave from an unhappy life and betrayal of her husband. And my father drank and died at the age of 41 years. These are tragic and interesting facts about Lermontov, which largely predetermined his fate and explains many things in his image.

From all his life, from every line, there was a deadly longing and an unwillingness to live. He anticipated an early and tragic death, and more than once wrote about it in verse: "I would like to forget myself and fall asleep ...", "I foresaw my lot, my end, and the sadness of an early seal on me." Of course, early orphanhood affected his character, and is it because he grew up a bilious person and uncomfortable for everyone? There are interesting facts about Lermontov, left in letters and articles of friends. Even the close ones mentioned his uneasy character, his quick temper and the fact that he himself always looked for reasons for the duel, as though deliberately going to meet his death.

A sad demon, the spirit of exile

The Caucasus, where Lermontov was exiled after the impudent poem "The Death of a Poet," became the source of his inspiration. He recognized and fell in love with the mores of the mountain people, who still consider him their poet. So, like Lermontov, this beautiful and harsh land was not sung by anyone. Impressed by Caucasian events and legends, his main work is written - "The Hero of Our Time". Pechorin, bored and looking for adventure, not sparing anyone in his cold passion, is himself, the poet Mikhail Lermontov. And even sincerely loving, he involuntarily brings trouble to everyone who loves him.

No matter how far these two works are, the "Demon" echoes with "The Hero of Our Time". And again the reader sees the features of the most "sad demon" - the author.
He is a fatalist, and his contemporaries and later biographers recognized this. At the same time he did not wait for him to overtake the rock, but went to meet him. Such predestination, spurred on by himself, was that fateful day of July 15, 1841. What was it? Lermontov threw fifty dollars for good luck: to return to the place of service or take a walk to Pyatigorsk? Walked. There he met an old friend Martynov, quarreled with him and provoked a duel. Years later, Martynov admits that Mikhail Yuryevich himself was substituted for bullets, this was rock, and his, Martynov, fate chose a tool of malicious intent.
