Hernia on the wheel - a little trouble with big consequences

Herniation on the wheel - so among motorists it is customary to call the inflation of a tire. It can not always be discerned, however, during movement such a defect is almost always felt in the form of rocking or rhythmic jolts of the car, even at low speed. Most often, a hernia on the wheel appears after hitting the machine wheel speed in the pit. Often at this point, damage is not only to rubber, but also to the disc itself. Lateral cuts can also cause swelling. If the problem arose with the new rubber, then there is a factory marriage. In any case, if the "symptoms" described above appear, it is necessary to inspect the wheels for the appearance of blisters.

What can a hernia on the wheel lead to? It happens that the damaged power frame makes the tread of the curve of the curve (this leads to the buildup of the car). Riding with such damage will eventually crash the steering, which, if the wheel on the front axle, will damage the tips of the steering rods.

Quite often, using a tire even with the smallest hernia can lead to unpleasant consequences. For example, during the movement, the unevenness of the tire increases the pressure and temperature inside, which can cause deformation of the inner cord, respectively, creating a danger to the life of the driver and passengers during maneuvers at high speed. In addition, the hernia on the wheel can burst at any moment and it will take time and nerves to eliminate bloating or replace the wheel. Among the most common reasons for the explosion of a tire due to its swelling are the following: car overload, application of emergency braking, movement at high speed, re-entry into the pit.

So, in case of a bloating, you need to put a spare wheel or take care of the removal of the hernia. Repair of tires in this case involves the use of a patch with an all-metal frame, the distinctive feature of which is the special location of the metal cord threads. Such a frame allows the shape of the rubber to be retained at the point of its defect during inflation and prevents swelling.

When repairing the side of the tire, pay attention to the defect distance from the tire bead. If this segment is less than 40 mm, "cosmetic repair" is inexpedient. It is also not recommended to use a multi-layer patch on the tire's side surface, as this can lead to an increase in the rigidity of the area on which repairs are carried out, which in turn threatens to exfoliate the patch during movement.

Repair of the hernia on the tire in the shoulder zone involves the use of a larger patch. This is caused by the probability of a swelling immediately in two parts of the damaged cord, which often happens when you hit a hard obstacle.

After the swelling has been eliminated, a slight bulge may appear on the repair site. This is due to the deformation of the rubber layer, which binds the patch to the surface of the tire during inflation. To prevent swelling, you need to choose a patch with a larger surface area and apply a hot vulcanization method that can provide a strong bond between the patch and the tire.
