German biathlete Ushi Dizl: biography, achievements and victories

A few years ago, without a German athlete Ushi Dizl did not pass any world competitions in biathlon. For fifteen years she was constantly among the leaders in all disciplines in the individual competition and represented the German national team in team competitions.

She participated in five Olympics (from 1992 to 2006), and at all went to the podium.

The outstanding biathlete appeared in 1970. It happened on November 15 in Germany, in Bavaria, in the city of Bad Tölze. The sport of Ushi Dizl was engaged from childhood. On skis rose at 11 years under the influence of his father. He strongly supported his daughter. He himself was also a member of the local ski club and, noticing the success of Ursula, offered to try his strength in biathlon. Sixteen-year-old girl liked the combination of ski races with shooting at targets.

Within two years she achieved her first victories at the junior level (European Cup (1989), Alpine Cup (1990)). Second place in the championship of Germany confirmed its inclusion in the national team. In the next season she already received her first award at the World Cup in 1991 as part of the national team. Then there were 15 years of speeches at the highest level.

After graduation she received a qualification for work as a bank employee. Since 1990 it has been included in the national police. In 1995 she passed the qualification exam and received the officer's rank of captain. After finishing her sports career she devoted herself to family life. Together with Thomas Soderbergh he has two children.

Ursula tried herself as a sports expert and commentator on one of the German channels. After the end of the speeches he leads an active lifestyle: riding bicycles, going down on kayaks, playing billiards. Ursula had to face an excessive display of attention to her person from the side of her idols. Because of this repeatedly changed her residence. Now she settled in Sweden, where she focused on family life.

Victory and disappointment

Only once in the season of 1992/93 she was not included in the top ten. That year was difficult for her, and Ears even thought about retirement. The fourth place in the relay for the entire season could be her last achievement. But she gathered and excelled in the next start.

She was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit (state award). Together with other great and famous German athletes participated in one of the national channels in the television show "The Eternal Hero."

The nickname "Turbo"

Knowing Ursula's tendency to lose concentration on the shooting range, Russian fans repeatedly (jokingly) expressed the opinion that she is the fifth member in their team. For blunders Ears often had to "wind" the penalty circles, giving hope and chance to other teams. But she compensated for this by sprinting at a distance. For this, their fans called her Turbo-Disl. Ears Dizl, even having misses on shooting, always aspired to show the maximum result.

However, this was not a blind pursuit of the goal. According to the trainers, she understood that she could jeopardize the overall team result. At the last Olympics, she even gave way to the young, refusing to participate in the relay, realizing that she can not guarantee a stable shooting.

Leaving the big biathlon

Why finished the sports career of Ursula Dizl? Ears more than once stated that she would like to leave with her head held high. Having set the record, taking the prize in the next (fifth in the account) Olympics, she felt that this is enough. Recognizing that the reason was not so much at the age (at that time she was 35 years old), she said she felt that she had ceased to receive the return from training, the motivation was gone, she felt that she had exhausted herself in the big sport.

Realizing that, perhaps, this is the last successful start, she announced her departure. After the end of her career, she remained faithful to the biathlon. Tried to follow everything that happened in sports circles, was an expert on the channel, commented on the stages of the world championships, but realized that this was not her path. Another reason for leaving the sport was the desire to create a full-fledged family. She did not hide that she had long been dreaming about a child, and decided not to postpone it.

A family

The following year, after the end of the speeches, Ushi Dizl gave birth to the first child. On December 15, 2007, a girl appeared in the family of Dizl and Thomas Soderbergh. It was called Hannah. Three years later, her brother Tobias was born on August 12, 2010.

Beloved Ursula, Thomas Soderbergh, at the time of acquaintance was a serviceman in the Norwegian national biathlon team. The couple is fine. Ursula is grateful to Thomas for his patience and general support at all stages of their relationship. By her most serious competition, Ushi Dizl called the moments of the birth of her daughter and son. But she coped, the children are healthy, grow up in a caring family - and this is the most important thing.

For her outstanding achievements she took an honorable place in sports history. Her personal qualities: femininity, charm, naturalness - helped her become a symbol and "locomotive" of the team. Biathlete Ushi Dizl has always stood for the popularization of a healthy lifestyle in Germany. And many great athletes were ready for this "to take off her hat".
