Gear pump: spheres of use, device and principle of operation

The gear pump is used in automotive hydraulic systems, as well as in various industrial sectors. The fact is that such devices can pump liquids of varying degrees of viscosity and are strong enough, so they can be used for a long time.

The device is used in chemical (for pumping alkali, shampoo, emulsions, oil products), food (pumping cacao, caramel, honey cream), petrochemical and paint industry. And the unit can process a huge amount of liquid.

The gear pump has a fairly simple device. It consists of several working chambers, which are formed by the working surfaces of the wheels with denticles. The entire mechanism is housed in a sturdy housing made of cast iron, steel or aluminum, and is closed with side covers. A feature of the device is a small number of components. The advantage of the unit is also that the elements can be easily replaced in the event of a breakdown. Due to these features, the pump has a demand and is used widely enough.

It should be noted that the gear pump can be multi-sectional, with external or internal gearing, the second variant being more compact. Also it is possible to single out multistage apparatuses. As for the gears, the teeth in them can be both chevron and oblique. The most common is an external gear unit. It should be noted that the devices can have different volumes.

Gear pumps have many advantages:

- provide high productivity and a uniform flow of liquid;

- simple and reliable in operation;

- can pump a variety of viscosities of liquids ;

- they can be used for a long time, and it is not difficult to take care of them.

However, one must be careful when choosing a device, since if in its manufacture substandard spare parts were used, they can quickly wear out. Moreover, it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the teeth are uniform, otherwise the flow of liquid will be uneven.

Gear pump, the principle of operation of which is quite simple, is very common today. It works as follows: inside the body is installed the engine, on which the driving pinion is fixed, it firmly adheres to the teeth of the other elements. These elements are driven by the driving part. When the pump is turned on, the prongs grasp the liquid and move it towards the supercharger, pressing it against the body walls. Thanks to it, the parts of the device are capable of cooling, so the device does not overheat.

The internal gear clutch pump should be used at low pressures, as they are small in size, and therefore their performance is not high. Therefore, if you need to use a device that will withstand high pressures, then it is better to use multi-stage devices. In order to provide several fluid streams that will not depend on each other, multi-unit apparatuses are used.
