Fuses - an essential element of safety of electrical networks

The work of modern enterprises, as, indeed, the lives of ordinary citizens, can not do without electricity. At the same time, it should be understood that the electric current, despite all its indispensability, is a very real danger. That is why the issue of protection from its impact appeared almost simultaneously with the first electrical devices. One of the main links of this protection are fuses.

The fuse is a special device, the main function of which is to disconnect the electrical network. This trip occurs due to the fact that due to the effect of the current, the parameters of which exceed the permissible limits, some parts of the fuse burn out and the circuit is broken. The fuses are arranged in such a way that the circuit is broken due to the fact that the fuse-link is melted, which breaks down due to an extremely high current intensity.

Fuses have become a real salvation for electric circuits, where the current and voltage parameters could instantaneously increase several times. These devices were distinguished by their simplicity, low cost, compact size and high breaking capacity. In this case, high-voltage fuses are made for those cases when the voltage in the network reaches values above 35 kilovolts, and for lower parameters low voltage fuses are produced.

The fact that over the past century fuses have become an almost indispensable element of everyday life has led to a noticeable variety of their modifications. At the same time, it is worth noting that the basic elements included in the set of these devices do not practically change. The same high-voltage fuses consist of a housing, a connection device, a fuse-link and an arc-extinguishing medium.

According to the basic norms of the state standard, fuses carry their service in two main modes: under normal conditions, fusible rates give all the heat generated in them to the external environment, and in case of overloads or short circuits, fusible rates should burn out in a short period of time, thereby forming A break in the electrical circuit. It should be remembered that the higher the temperature, the fuses should work more quickly.

Typically, the insert is a special plate with notches, which are necessary in order to reduce the area of its section in individual sections. It is here that the fuses produce the greatest amount of heat, therefore, in the case of a short circuit, heating takes place as quickly as possible. In this case, the heat to the expanded areas simply does not have time to reach, so the inserts begin to melt, which, as a consequence, leads to their melting. The main result of all these processes is that the insert loses the ability to conduct an electric current, and the circuit breaks.

Thus, fuses play a huge role in modern electrical circuits. Their safety depends on the safety of the entire site and, consequently, the lives of ordinary citizens.
