Furugelma Island: a description of how to get there

This amazing paradise uninhabited island can quite claim the name "Russian Hawaii" for golden beaches with light yellow sand and for the crystal clearness of the water.

The island of Furugelma (Primorsky Krai) was loved by many tourists, although its visit is limited. To get there, you need an authorization ticket of the Far Eastern Reserve because it is part of its territory and is protected.

Far-Eastern marine reserve: geographical location

The huge Far Eastern Reserve extends to the territories of Primorsky Krai in the Peter the Great Bay. The year of its foundation is 1978. This natural reserve was created with the purpose of preserving the most valuable inhabitants of the Sea of Japan. Their number is about 250 species of rare fish, 800 species of algae, and many invertebrates also need protection.

The area of the entire reserve is more than 64 thousand hectares. This includes 9 islands. That very island of Furugelma is a site of reproduction (aquaculture of scallops, trepanga, and giant oysters). It is included in three main areas of the reserve.

The island of Furugelma is a beautiful natural place on the very edge of Russian territory.

It was named in honor of Furugelm II - the captain of the ship "Prince Menshikov", owned by a joint company (Russian-American).

Description

In general, the island is uninhabited. There are only a cordon and a scientific station from the Institute of Marine Biology. This island may well claim to be one of the most beautiful places, not only in Primorye.

The entire island of Furugelma is bordered by a sandbank, whose depth is less than 10 m. On the shoal are stones. Rocky banks rise and break off over the water.

The western part of the island girdles with small coves with towering cliffs above the water surface in the form of huge columns. It is in this place that a delightful and unique view opens. Particularly beautiful is the Western Bay, which is covered with pure white sand. The banks of this bay are rocky, along them stretches a narrow strip of beach (sandy-rocky). This site is protected from the winds of the southeast. There is also a parking lot for small vessels.

Flora and fauna

The nature of this plot of land is amazing with its beauty.

Endemic are the dentate oak and the Schmidt birch. In total there are about 100 such plants. Now they are very few. At the beginning of the 20th century, people did not take care of the nature of this territory, and there were even attempts to organize an artel here, which led to environmental consequences.

The peculiarity of the flora of these places is that the broadleaf forests here are represented fragmentarily. The island of Furugelma is practically forested in most of its territory, especially in the southern part. All this is explained, as was indicated above, by the consequences of barbarous activity of people (settlements of the island are still preserved on the island).

The south-east of the island is characterized by rockiness and there are disintegrations. In the north-west forests grow, there are also relief depressions ending in bays. Here grow mainly polydominant and deciduous forests: the Amur linden, maple, oak, locally velvet, nasolistny ash, Sakhalin cherry, linden Manchurian, but without pubescence.

Surprisingly, there is only one pine preserved here (in the area of the northern bay). The height of this unique tree is about 5 m, and the diameter of the trunk is about 14 cm. Unfortunately, he does not have a growth.

A total of about 302 species of various rare plants are noted on the island.

Furugelma Island is a favorite place for biologists engaged in observations of the natural environment of the Sea of Japan.

Rocks on the east coast are strewn with bird bazaars. Black-tailed seagulls and cormorants (about 1000 birds) inhabit and nest here. They represent the largest colony in the world. You can also meet many other species of rare birds (about 300 in all).

In the underwater rocks, there are the largest colonies of mussel (s) and anemones, various species of hedgehogs and sea stars. Laminaria occur in the coastal waters up to 2 m in height. And the scallop colony lives near the coast.

Holidays on the island

The island of Furugelma is very attractive for tourists. Rest on it, bathing in crystal clear water deliver an incomparable, unforgettable pleasure. And the landscapes around are fabulous.

Fans of diving can also get indescribable impressions from immersing themselves in amazingly clean water with immense sea riches.

The way to the island

As already mentioned above, only by passes you can visit the island of Furugelma.

How to get to it? For this, it is necessary to overcome almost 16 kilometers of water. It is very important to remember that unfavorable weather can complicate this journey.

The usual and most convenient route used by many tourists is the way from Zarubino village by boat to the island of Furugelma.

It should always be remembered that the pristine beauty of this amazing nature can be preserved only by protecting and loving it.
