Ford Taunus - record holder for modifications

The history of Ford Taunus began in the distant 1938 in West Germany at the factories of the American concern Ford. The car was produced in the class of subcompacts. Ford Taunus was one of the most technologically advanced machines of the time, its design allowed a chain of endless modifications, quite diverse and effective. In total there are 35 different Ford-Taunus, with a coupe and sedan, two-door modifications and four-door, high-power engines and low-cost economical ones. But it should be noted that for all the variety, the brand Ford Taunus had almost one hundred percent unification of spare parts for the engine and undercarriage.

Ford Taunus belonged to the category of so-called family cars in terms of safety and comfort. The Germans were willing to purchase a car, considering it to be its age-old, especially since the name Taunus came from the Taunus mountain range, located near Cologne. The car was thorough, reliable, with a spacious interior, it had everything it needed, and even more. Most of the modifications of the Taunus were produced with a rear wheel drive, which was considered an automotive classic and liked by almost all customers. However, there were two production lines, P4 and P6, which produced front-wheel drive vehicles. This was done primarily from considerations of progress, they say, and we do not stand still, but also for the sake of the German youth, which gravitated towards the newfangled factors in the automotive sphere.

Ford Taunus - the record for the number of modifications and, probably, it makes sense to trace the chronology of the most significant reincarnations of this remarkable machine. So, Ford Taunus for the first time got off the assembly line in the form of a two-door sedan with a petrol engine rated at 35 hp. The body of the car could be classified as a kind of "coupe", but in the contours there was no hint of sportiness, and the gearshift was on the steering column, which initially implies slowdown. The maximum speed of this Taunus was only 105 km / h, so everything converges. This model was produced before the war in 1941.

In the postwar years, the production of Ford Taunus cars began with a model of a very peculiar form, humpbacked from all sides. The car was like a fairy tale. However, the engine slightly increased power, although the cruising speed decreased. In 1952, the Taunus became more gently sloping and more speedy, the body traditionally remained a two-door, but a convertible with a convertible was commercially produced. 1953 was marked by the appearance of Taunus with the station wagon. The car was three-speed, which, of course, not enough for this class, and the next year at Ford Taunus put already a 4-speed transmission with synchronizers. In 1955, the engine "Ford Taunus 15M" reached a volume of 1.5 liters, with this engine the car developed a speed of 130 km / h.

Then for a number of years Ford Taunus slightly changed, and in 1964 several modifications with three types of bodies appeared at once: a sedan, a two-door coupe and a combi. In 1967, the car received a new engine with a power of 125 hp, which prompted designers to develop an automatic gearbox, which was done. Then Ford Taunus was modified once again, and the result was the front suspension Ferzon, a completely new instrument panel, a state-of-the-art console and so high seat backs that the headrests were no longer needed. Ford Taunus of 1980 remained unchanged until the close of its production in 1982, when Taunus replaced the new Ford Sierra.
