The choice of your business is largely determined by the economic prospects of this or that activity. A beginning entrepreneur should pay attention to the rapidly developing sector of the Russian economy - the service sector.

The service sector is a set of activities aimed at the production and sale of services to the public.

Since the late nineties the attitude of the state to the production and delivery of services to the population has changed. Over the past years, the share of services in GDP has increased significantly, but nevertheless Russia lags behind these parameters from the countries of Europe and the USA. So, the US economy is sometimes called a service economy, since the share of service in the US GDP is 77%.

In addition, the services sector plays an important role in the employment of the population. The production of services in some cases does not require large investments and guarantees the creation of jobs, economic stability. In other cases, it will ensure the improvement and development of industry.

Today, the services sector is being significantly improved, new technologies and modern forms of service and interaction with customers are being introduced, business activity and competition among service companies are increasing.

Classifications and characteristics of services are different according to the selected criteria. However, we can identify some that give a general idea of this type of business as a service sector.

According to the criterion of "the needs of the population": services for the production of material goods (consumer services, transport, communications), the production of spiritual goods (education, science, physical culture and sports, art), production in the social sphere (housing, health, trade).

According to the criterion of "tangibility - intangibility", Lovelock identifies:

A) services that are tangible actions that are aimed at the human body (health, sports and tourism, catering, transportation, beauty salons and hairdressers, etc.);

B) services that are tangible actions that are directed at other physical objects (freight transport, veterinary services, repair and maintenance of equipment, household services);

C) services that are intangible actions aimed at human consciousness (media, information, education, cultural institutions);

D) services that are intangible actions with intangible assets (insurance, banks, legal services and others)

According to the criterion "economically significant prices" are divided into market (transport, trade, education, health, household, financial intermediation and others) and non-market (science, free education and medicine, defense, management)

According to the criterion "service delivery object", the European Union distinguishes three types: a) for the consumer (auto repair, beauty salons, catering, hotel business, etc.); B) for business (legal, audit, consulting, information, computer, wholesale, and others); C) for the consumer and business.

It is necessary to pay attention to such a factor of development of the sphere of services as territorial location. Each region, by virtue of its natural and ethnic characteristics, creates a limited set of consumer services. It should be noted that, nevertheless, the volume of paid services in Russia has significantly increased in recent years.

So, if the service sector is the final choice of a novice businessman, then it is necessary to have some features of services in the form. Services are produced and consumed simultaneously, so their sales depend on the qualification of the pesonal. They are intangible, so the consumer's confidence is an important factor in the company's economic growth . There are difficulties in the allocation and accounting services.
