Extreme conditions are what we need if we want to be healthy

If you ever watched the show "Survive at all costs," you probably just shuddered at the horror of confronting adversities of the wild. For the British traveler, the leading program of Bear Grylls, it is not worthwhile to wade the Arctic river, eat giant worms and sleep without protection under the open sky.

We are used to comfort

It is now difficult for us to imagine how our life would be broken if we did not have comfortable housing and electricity. When people want extreme, they go on a hike, rafting on fast rivers and making mountain ascents. But then the travelers return to their warm home again. Modern people will not for nothing exchange the achievements of science and technology for housing in caves. When the July heat comes, we turn on the air conditioners, when behind an eye of cold, we have heaters.

Counterintuitive approach to a healthy lifestyle

While we rejoice that our struggle for survival in the middle of the tundra or savannah has not fallen out, American journalist and anthropologist Scott Carney expresses a different point of view. In his recent book, the scientist spoke about the fact that it's time for us to leave cozy homes and return to our sources. The author complains that humanity has lost its evolutionary strength. Yes, we devote a lot of time to physical perfection and healthy diets, but the influence of the environment negates our efforts. According to the scientist, extreme temperatures (both very high and very low) can best support human health.

Everything that does not kill us makes you stronger

It seems that the reflections of the American anthropologist contradict logic and common sense. In fact, the feeling that a person can not survive in super-extreme conditions, was born in us in connection with a sedentary lifestyle. And if we did not sit for hours in front of the monitors, we would treat the extreme heights and the cold differently. This is why we look with horror at the trials that Bear Grylls is undergoing.

A sedentary lifestyle is a poison coated with sugar

Take a look at this curious relationship: the heyday of such serious diseases as diabetes, hypertension and cancer, occurred at the end of the twentieth century, when a person placed himself in comfortable conditions. We no longer walk and do not work physically. However, the deterioration of people's health eloquently shows that comfort does not go to our advantage. We began to consume too many processed products and acquired increased sensitivity to various life's details.

Let's return nature to our life

That's why Scott Carney advocates the return of environmental problems to our lives. The scientist collaborated with the Dutch hero Vim Hof during one of the scientific experiments. Then the "Iceman" placed his body in extremely cold conditions and proved that the cold can heal from injuries and illnesses. This technique requires careful study, but now it becomes clear that colds help alleviate the symptoms of Parkinson's disease and Cohn's syndrome.
