EGP of the European North. Features of the northern part of Russia

Today we will get acquainted and give a description of the EGP of the European North. The first thing we pay attention to is the presence of world-famous monuments. Kizhi is a cultural monument built between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This world-famous place is located on the homonymous island of Lake Onega - Kizhi. This ensemble consists of churches and bell towers of incredible beauty.

Few people know about the island of Valaam, and this place in Ladoga Lake contains another monument, only this time it is a monument of Russian architecture. It's about the monastery.

One more place I would like to single out before moving on to the EGP of the European North. The monument, located on the territory of our vast country - Kivach. This is one of the largest plain waterfalls, a natural monument of Russia, which is about eleven meters high.

This small digression here is not in vain, it is a reminder that our country is so great and beautiful that it will not be enough for the whole life to get acquainted with all its corners. So, consider the EGP of the European North, we propose to start with the composition of this region, proceed now.

Composition

This region includes the republics: Karelia and Komi, autonomous districts: Arkhangelsk and Nenets, regions: Murmansk and Vologda. Considering the EGP of the European North of Russia, namely the composition of the north of our country, many cities are excluded from the list. Speaking about the North of Russia, they do not mean the location, but rather the historical and cultural concept. There are no unambiguous boundaries, one can not say for sure whether this or that place belongs to the North, since its territory is not universally accepted. Many Pskov and Novgorod regions are referred to the European North. There are cases when autonomous districts are deleted from the list.

Many may have a question as to why the Pskov region belongs to the North of Russia, and St. Petersburg does not, although the second object is north of the first. Everything is explained by the fact that Peter is the personification of the Western beginning in Russian history, and we have already mentioned that geographical location plays an insignificant role in this concept.

Climate

Let us consider some more features of the EGP of the European North. Let's talk a little more about the climate of this region. Since Arctic breathing prevails in the European North of Russia, most of the year in these regions is cold, summer is short and not hot. Many days of blizzards and snowstorms are possible. The winds that come from the Arctic Ocean are very dry and cold, they form this not very comfortable climate.

Consider separately the climate of Vologda, Arkhangelsk region and Komi. As for the first in our list, the winter here is very cold and harsh, the temperature is below minus forty degrees - this is not uncommon. Summer is moderately warm. We can say that the climate is not stable, air masses from the north-east bring a cold, and the tropical in summer can cause a really hot day.

The Arkhangelsk region is an area where the climate is humid and quite cool. Even at the beginning of summer there may be night frosts, and the north of the region is considered the Polar region, where the polar night is winter and the polar day in summer.

As for Komi, then it's a bit more complicated. Winter is very long and cold, the temperature can fall below minus fifty degrees. Summer is very short and cool, at the beginning and end of the season night frosts are possible. In winter, drifts reach a meter in height. When the grass is green in the southern part of the Komi Republic, there may be frosts in the north up to minus thirty degrees. The western part is slightly warmer than the eastern one, since in the former air masses of the Atlantic currents predominate.

Natural resources

The characteristic of the EGP of the European North also involves the analysis of the question of the availability of natural resources. So, the European North is our gold mine, it is on the territory of these regions that the main reserves of resources are concentrated:

  • Water;
  • Fuel;
  • Forest;
  • Mining and chemical;
  • Non-ferrous metallurgy;
  • building materials;
  • Ferrous metallurgy.

Economy

The next item that should be mentioned when considering the EGP of the European North is the economy of the regions in the given territory. We list the ones that are most developed:

  • non-ferrous metallurgy;
  • ferrous metallurgy;
  • Fuel industry ;
  • chemical industry;
  • Timber industry ;
  • Woodworking industry.
