Cystic change in the ovaries is not a cause for despair
Cystic ovarian change is a hormonal disease. In other words, it is polycystic ovary, which, in itself, with timely treatment, does not carry a serious threat to women's health. The worst thing that can happen is the absence of ovulation.
In the ovaries, not only female sex hormones (progesterone and estrogen) are produced, but also male (androgens). But, when there is a cystic change in the ovaries, the balance between them is disturbed. And because the amount of androgen produced significantly exceeds the production of female sex hormones, ovulation does not begin.
The most important sign, which indicates the presence of this ailment, is a large number of small cysts (follicles) in the ovary. So, for example, a cystic change in the right ovary with an ultrasound examination will look like an ovary, significantly enlarged in size. On its structural periphery there are many small cysts. But at the initial stages this disease is conservatively treated with hormonal drugs.
To such disease most often lead Adrenal gland dysfunction, female gonads and thyroid gland, hypothalamic-pituitary system, and hereditary predisposition. At the present time, this disease is increasingly associated with an excess of insulin, which can stimulate the production of androgen.
Cystic ovarian changes have a number of signs and symptoms. In 100% of women who suffer from this ailment, the symptoms are primary infertility, absence of ovulation, violation of the menstrual cycle (by the type of oligo-amenorrhea), excessive growth of hair on the body. Not always an increase in the size of the ovaries. More than 50% of women have an increase in testosterone and LH levels, and there is also hirsutism. And less than 50% of them suffer from acne, obesity or alopecia.
The most accurate and complete diagnosis is determined not only by the ultrasound method. For this, other specific analyzes are still required. It is necessary to donate blood to hormones and for biochemical analysis. Also, tests for hidden infections, a smear on the microflora and a clinical analysis of blood and urine will be required.
Distinguish between true (primary) and secondary polycystosis. In the first case, this is a hereditary disease, and in the second - the consequence of the disease of the ovaries. The cause may be stress, a sharp decrease or increase in weight, the reception of contraceptives, breast-feeding. If you do not resort to treatment in a timely manner, it threatens infertility.
Often there are cystic-gliotic changes in the ovaries, which are cicatricial-adhesive changes in surgical intervention. They are not dangerous in themselves, but only if the growth of the tumor does not continue. Very often the cause of this illness is inflammation. Most importantly, if the inflammatory process is detected, take timely measures to eliminate it. Otherwise polycystic ovarian cure will be difficult enough.
Not so long ago it was believed that the only way to treat this pathology is surgical. At the present time, first prescribe the use of hormonal medications, provided there are no tubal factors of infertility. For those who are still sick and obese, a prerequisite for therapy is weight loss.
If the disease lasts for a long time without any treatment, it can lead to cancer of the uterus and even breast cancer. That is why all girls and women who are diagnosed as having cystic ovarian changes should undergo periodic courses of treatment with hormonal drugs, starting from adolescence.
