Cyst of the brain, causes and symptoms

Causes of the cyst of the brain - is a consequence of diseases that are transferred or current, such as:

  • meningitis;
  • encephalitis;
  • Traumatic injuries;
  • Inflammatory processes.

They all lead to inflammation of the membranes of the brain. Perhaps the emergence of a cyst, called the arachnoid, located in the shell of the brain. In Latin, the name of the shell sounds like "arachna", which means "spider". The name corresponds to the translation and sounds like a cyst of the brain is arachnoid.

The slit-shaped space between the lobes of the brain (parietal and temporal) contains a liquid. It is present in the brain at all times, having normal pressure corresponding to the intracranial pressure. As a result of the disease, there are areas where the liquid gathers near the coalesced layers of the medulla. When the liquid becomes too much, it presses against the shell, so headaches may occur.

Changing the area of the brain leads to the withering away of its part. The fluid pressure exceeds the intracranial pressure, resulting in the formation of a cyst of the brain. By origin and development of the disease distinguish:

  • Arachnoid;
  • Intracerebral;
  • Cerebral cyst.

The cyst of the brain is divided into arachnoid and cerebral depending on what development it receives and what location it has in the brain. The arachnoid cyst is always located on the surface of the brain, and the cerebral cyst is always inside.

All of them have a common ground: a dead site, in the place of which a cyst of the brain appears. Its development suggests that the disease changed the structure of the brain, limited blood flow, making blood flow inadequate. Treatment is needed to stop the growth of the cyst and prevent further changes in the brain.

How can the cyst vary, can it increase

The cyst is not a malignant neoplasm. Its dimensions can be determined by means of a tomography. If it increases in size, this indicates that the cause of the disease has remained. So what can be the growth?

  • The liquid continues to press on the deceased portion of the brain;
  • Inflammation of the membrane is not eliminated;
  • The effects of concussion continue;
  • There are new areas of damage due to a stroke;
  • The infection in the brain is not eliminated: the effects of multiple sclerosis, autoimmune process, encephalomyelitis, and neuroinfection.

To establish the cause of the ongoing painful changes, do MR imaging or examine the blood flow in the vessels of the brain.

What are the symptoms of a cyst of the brain?

One or more of the following symptoms can speak of a disease:

  • Frequent and severe headaches;
  • Feeling that in the head something is pressing or there is a feeling of "bursting" of the head;
  • When hearing is not lowered, but there is a strong noise in the ears (ear);
  • Hearing loss, symptomatic hearing loss;
  • epilepsy;
  • Episodic loss of consciousness;
  • Partial paralysis of the body part (passing or constant);
  • Visual impairment;
  • Feeling of numbness in any part of the body;
  • It is difficult to maintain balance.

Diagnosis and treatment

In order to diagnose the presence of a cyst, the following can be assigned:

  • Research of blood supply (vessels of the neck and head);
  • Examination of the heart muscle;
  • Tests for blood clotting and cholesterol;
  • Examination of blood pressure;
  • Identification of infections and autoimmune diseases.

The disease can occur at all without any symptoms. If you often have a headache, there are loss of consciousness or visual and hearing disorders, tinnitus, this does not mean the presence of a cyst. The diagnosis of such a serious illness can be established only on the basis of necessary research and only by a doctor. Treatment is prescribed by a doctor.
