Cultural Center "Pokrovsky Gate" in Moscow: address, poster

The Cultural Center "Spiritual Library" is also the cultural and educational center "Pokrovsky Gates". And he is named so because he is on Pokrovka in the heart of the Russian capital, in the former house-estate of the Botkin family.

goal

The center was opened in 1993, but the active work began with moving to a new premise in 2005. Here, the history and Christian culture harmoniously intertwined - Western European Catholicism and Eastern European Orthodoxy.

The cultural center "Pokrovskie Vorota", the main goal of its activity, considers the revival and promotion of Christian cultures through its own unique projects. Regular meetings, seminars, concerts, exhibitions and countless presentations are aimed at educating all without exception.

The center has three founders - Christian Russia Foundation, Catholic Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz and Minsk Orthodox Metropolitan Filaret. This is already an important experience in the unification of Christians.

Where can I find the cultural center "Pokrovskie Vorota"? The address is very simple - the heart of the capital - st. Pokrovka, 27. This is a very symbolic place, because it was here, in the Botkin's house, there was a huge collection of paintings and was one of the brightest Moscow sights of the time.

Ideology

Ecumenism is an ideology aimed at the common activity and mutual understanding of Christians of different faiths. The ecumenical movement calls for paying attention to unifying factors in religious teachings among Catholics, Orthodox and Protestants. Their goal is also to create common practical actions aimed at unity and tolerance.

The ideologists of the movement advocate the strengthening of the influence of Christian dogmas and the creation of a common social program for believers from different countries.

In modern society this is a very urgent problem, because believers of Christian faiths are not completely tolerant of each other and sometimes even quarrel among themselves.

Book business

Since 1993, the center has published more than 100 books in small print runs - 2-3 thousand. The best-seller is the "Catechism of the Catholic Church." In different years this work was republished, its total circulation is more than 15,000 copies. Distribution of books is the main task of the center. These are their own publications and purchased from other Catholic, Orthodox and secular publishers. Over the years, more than 1.5 million books have been distributed. Some of these books are put up for sale in shops and church shops. Charitable activities of the center are aimed at supporting libraries - church and state.

The most valuable book in the center is the "Introduction to Christianity" of Pope Benedict XVI with the preface of Metropolitan Kirill. It is in him that he recommends reading the book to all Orthodox and all who seek truth. This is truly very valuable and is another sign of the unity of the West and the East.

Director

Jean-François Tiree (pictured below) began to study Russian still in his homeland, in Belgium. Then the hopes of Christians for their presence and work in the Soviet Union were very weak. The language practice was held in Novosibirsk, where, he said, he fell in love with Russia.

The places where he first visited, opened for him Russia and people who met him very well. Jean-Francois himself was Catholic, but meeting with the Orthodox tradition helped him open the depth and penetrate the Christian movement.

Today, the cultural center "Pokrovskie Vorota" consists of 24 employees, a bookstore, the "Book by mail" service and always an up-to-date poster: exhibitions, presentations in different Russian cities, cultural meetings.

Schedule of events for the next few days:

March 1, 2017 begins a series of lectures by Tatyana Kramarenko "Envy or the phenomenon of Cain."

March 3 - a solo performance "I dreamed a dream" by Leonid Reznik.

March 4 - "Extraordinary Adventures" - the award ceremony for the winners of the literary contest.

March 6 - "Fairy tales for hearty amusement".

March 9 - "The thought of Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh in the context of theology of the twentieth century."

March 10 - "Nostalgia for the Baroque" - an octet of soloists of the Moscow ensemble.

Jean-Francois dreams of creating similar centers in Russia's cities, where people could easily come and read ecumenical literature in a calm environment.

Project manager

Victor Popkov still remembers the times when such a center in Russia could not be at all. In the mid-70s, the government had a negative attitude towards any religious community. This concept they associated only with old age. An attempt to comprehend its own existence and the existence of the country in the Christian plane was not undertaken at all and was brutally suppressed. This question was then dealt with by the KGB.

Viktor Mikhailovich and his friends from the "Circle of Christian Youth" in the 80s had to even sit in the camps for their active Christian position. The articles were different, from political to everyday. Beginning with anti-Soviet agitation and reaching the forgery of documents. Activists received terms from one and a half years and up to twelve.

Now the Christian culture has become public, and everyone can get acquainted with its history and modernity.

Father Romano Scalfi

In his usual state, behind the book, one could meet here the founder of the Christian Russia Foundation. This is a legendary man in the Christian world. The foundation was founded in 1957 - it is the history and prehistory of the spiritual library. Half a century, Father Romano tirelessly showed both Catholics and Christians that ecumenism is not just a theory, and it is impossible without the reunification of religious communities, and the desire for unity begins with every single person in his heart.

The fund created by him in modern times holds various international conferences devoted to the basic tendencies of religious life in the open spaces of Russia and Europe. Representatives of Orthodox and Catholic communities, cultural figures, historians and young people gathered at these events.

Despite Italian origin and belonging to the Catholic Church, Romano Scalfi revealed to the Christians of the West "the tradition and culture of the Slavic peoples".

Events

On the official website, in the media and in social networks, the poster is constantly updated. Exhibitions, concerts, theater performances, literary evenings ... Everyone will find for themselves something cognitive and interesting. Here you can spend time with benefit, plunging into the spiritual setting of the Pokrovsky Center.

Meetings

Every year, the cultural center "Pokrovsky Gates" holds meetings for all comers in the fall period. Speakers here are spiritual leaders, public figures, scientists, teachers, artists, musicians and other creative personalities.

During such events, global issues of spirituality and unity in the world are raised. The last Pokrovsk meetings were very productive, because they were involved in the Russian Orthodox University.

As for globalization in modern society, the issues of migration processes, volunteering, tolerance, spirituality and charity were raised. Among the most colorful guests was Eissa Wail Farouk, a lecturer at Cairo University. Despite the fact that Christianity and Islam do not intersect, its main message is a joint peaceful existence in the modern world of both religions. He also drew attention to the problem of stereotypes that prevent different people and cultures from correctly treating each other.

Today, Russia is open, civil society is being actively built here. And such organizations, it would seem, are not entirely relevant. But the cultural center "Pokrovskie Vorota" understands that the new time is giving Christians new challenges.
