Cold Yar: a unique tract in Ukraine

Many people know about the area called Cold Yar not from history, but from literature. After all, it was he who praised Taras Shevchenko in his works dedicated to the struggle of the Ukrainians with the invaders. But in the historical life of the country he played a very important role. Today they come here to be inspired by courage and dedication, to remember the past, to touch the mystery and energize. After all, the Cold Jar is a mysterious place of power that attracts people like a magnet.

Some general information

Cold Yar, photo of which is presented in our article, is a unique place. This tract, located in the Cherkassy region, is a hilly relief with an abundance of beams with steep slopes densely overgrown with relic forest. Its area is about seven thousand hectares. Almost every beam, yar and trickle have their own names, in which not only features of the terrain, but also historical events are displayed.

Cold Yar, whose history reminds a fairy tale, more than once or twice became the center of the liberation struggle of the Ukrainian people. People have lived here since time immemorial. Archaeologists have found a lot of ancient settlements and sites in the tract, and, what is noteworthy, they belong to all the peoples who once lived in Ukraine. Koliivshchina, the famous peasant uprising against Polish oppression, began in the Cold Yard, Bogdan Khmelnitsky from these places, the Haidamak movement developed here, which Kobzar wrote with inspiration. And in 1918-1923 in the tract was proclaimed Kholodnoyaranskaya republic, which led the struggle for independence with both the Reds and the Whites, and was led by the Chuchupaki brothers. About fifteen thousand people fought in the partisan detachments of the unrecognized and forgotten republic, and it included only 25 villages.

Unrecognized republic

Cold Yar is a place where the spirit of Cossack glory, the restless rebel who dreams of freedom, still lives. He forced people to rise up and beat the enemies. Three years existed in the twentieth century, the republic, which was a place free from Soviet power. During the Civil War, it was wiped off the face of the earth, and the government and the inhabitants of this unrecognized state were destroyed, calling the bandits posthumous. The victors betrayed them anathema, forbidding even to recall the existence of dissatisfied people. But in the memory of the people they stayed, perhaps, thanks to a book that describes those distant events.

In the book, Yuri Gorlis-Gorsky (Yury Gorodyanin-Lisovsky), a direct participant in that war, tells about the Kholodnoyar Republic. His little work covers the story from different angles, objectively and truthfully, not as people read in Soviet textbooks. The book was written by him in exile and contains many interesting facts, memories. The author was killed, possibly by agents of the NKVD, in 1946, and his family is involved in the dissemination of memoirs. "Cold Yar" is a sad book filled with patriotism and deep sorrow that Ukrainians can not (or do not want) to unite in the struggle. If this happened, no one could trample on the freedom of his homeland.

A unique place

In the tract is a unique nature. UFOlogists discovered in the Cold Yar, numerous fornication and geomagnetic anomalies. Meteorologists pay attention to the fact that in the area the temperature is 3-6 degrees lower than in the rest of the territory around (hence the name of the Yar). All the possible landscapes of the forest-steppe Ukraine are concentrated here, rare and valuable species of flora are found, trees grow, ages are measured by centuries. And the sights here are more than enough, and each is worthy to be inspected. And in the Cold Jar is very beautiful. Not for nothing is more than forty thousand tourists come here every year.

sights

It is here, in the tract, the glorious city of Chigirin. Cold Yar was a neighbor of the hetman capital in 1648-1660. It seems that the souls of Baida Vishnevetsky, Krishtof Kosinsky, Bogdan Khmelnitsky, Severin Nalyvayk, Taras Tryasil, Maxim Zaliznyak and other brave leaders of the Ukrainian people still wander the quiet streets of the city. Over Chyhyryn, the Castle Hill rises, on which remains of fortifications still can be seen. Not far from the city is located with. Subotov, the fatherland and the last shelter of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnitsky. And in the village of Melniki there is a monastery, unapproachable walls of which even the Mongols did not destroy.

What is worth seeing?

  • Oak of Maxim Zaliznyak, whose age exceeds a thousand years.
  • Holy Trinity Matroninsky nunnery.
  • Scythian hillfort and Scythian rampart.
  • Gaydamak pond.
  • Manor Kresselsky forestry with a monument to Taras Shevchenko.
  • Monument to the cold-blooded partisans.
  • Caves and underground passages are about 30 km long.
  • Sklik - a place of gathering of Haidamaks and Cossacks.
  • Dugouts and trenches, camps that were used during the war.
  • Sources and lakes, the water in which is curative.

Instead of concluding

Some researchers see in the Cold Yar a mysterious "Island Rus", Artaniya, the search for which has not yet been crowned with success. The fact is that before the rivers Irdyn and Tiasmin could be the second channel of the Dnieper, which was navigable, but for some reason dried up. In confirmation of this, they bring findings - sea shellfish and the remains of large ships.

It does not matter what exactly led you to the tract: the annual Cossack festival, a passion for history or simple curiosity. Cold Yar is a special place that will not leave anyone indifferent!
