Catalan architectural attractions. Reus - a city that surprises with its color

A typical Catalan town, in which it is very easy to combine successful shopping and acquaintance with unique monuments, has not yet enjoyed immense popularity among foreigners. However, local authorities are trying to increase the tourist flow, doing everything to ensure that vacationers feel comfortable in a foreign land.

Calm and harmony

Spanish Reus can not boast of ancient history and a large number of architectural masterpieces, but this does not mean that there is nothing to see. The second largest city in the province of Tarragona is surprised by the special tranquility and pacification reigning in the resort.

An uncomfortable village appeared in the XII century, but only after six centuries it begins to develop intensively. Being the main commercial center of Catalonia for a long time, the capital of the Baix Camp region was inferior only to Barcelona in economic importance. But in the cultural plan until the XIX century the city practically did not develop. The Roman conquerors, and then the Spanish rich, were more attracted to neighboring cities than the colorful representative of Catalonia.

Buildings in the Art Nouveau style

It can be said that the main attractions of the city appeared relatively recently. Reus drew the attention of a huge number of entrepreneurs who wanted to surround themselves with luxury. It is at this time that the image of the municipality in Spain begins to change: beautiful buildings appear in the modern architectural style, which is innovative and completely destroys stereotypes.

Buildings that have become a real decoration of the city, are remembered by an unusual appearance, emphasizing their individuality. Now there is even a special tourist route, where vacationers can see first-hand the architectural attractions that have recently appeared. Reus will surprise even the most sophisticated tourists with his masterpieces erected by talented architects.

Gaudi Museum

In 2007, one of the most unusual museums in the world, made of blue glass, was opened. All his exhibits are mock-ups of the fantastic creations of the ingenious architect Antonio Gaudi, who was born here in 1852.

Tourists like that in a unique institution you can touch all objects to understand the plan of the great master. An electronic guide, reviving around each layout, will tell the story of the appearance of quaint monuments created by Gaudi.

Of particular interest is the mirrored floor with an interactive map of Barcelona applied to it. The visitor holds a finger at the marked icons and receives detailed information about each masterpiece designed by the architect, in the form of a small film on the screen. And tourists from Russia will not encounter difficulties in listening to the story, as recently all the texts have been translated into Russian.

Perhaps no one will argue that the Gaudi Museum with unusual halls and exhibits are the main local attractions. Reus is proud of the great architect, who, unfortunately, did not build a single architectural monument in his native city, and offers a route for tourists connected with the life of a closed genius.

The main temple of the city

The most ancient treasure of the resort is the Gothic cathedral, which is of great importance for the province of Tarragona. Appeared in the XII century, the Church of St. Peter in Reus originally was a modest building in the Roman style. Over time, the temple expanded and became the main religious structure, which baptized a small Gaudi. A fabulously beautiful building is adored by tourists who admit that the interiors of the temple are incredibly beautiful, like its facade. From the observation deck, located on a high bell tower, offers a wonderful view of the picturesque pearl of Spain.

Central Square

You can not ignore the main square, located in the historic part of the city. A favorite place for walks of all tourists, decorated with Baroque mansions, can be called an open-air museum. The cozy square is a monument of antiquity, where cheerful fairs are held on holidays.

Here, too, a sculpture was erected to General Primo, a famous military commander, to whom the inhabitants paid tribute.

The sunny city, famous for its beaches, entertainment and shopping, will surprise with architectural creations, which are not found in all of Spain. Tourists are enthralled with colorful city attractions. Reus cordially greets his guests, who fall in love with the small capital of the Baix Camp at first sight. Its special magnetism is noted by all who were fortunate enough to be there.
