Askaridoz: treatment and prevention

Ascariasis is a disease in which a person is affected by ascarids - worms parasitizing the small intestine. The disease can develop in animals, for example, ascaridosis of pigs. The danger of infection arises from the excessive fertility of parasites: one female can lay more than 200,000 eggs a day, from which small larvae appear. Adult individuals are capable of reaching 20 centimeters in length. They not only feed on the tissues of the human body, but also poison it with the products of their vital activity.

Askaridoz: treatment and picture of the disease

Infection of human larvae or eggs occurs with the consumption of poorly washed fruits and vegetables, contaminated water, and also with dirty hands. At the initial stage, the larva develops in the intestine, and then it penetrates into the blood and lymphatic vessels. Together with the blood, larvae spread throughout the body, getting into the lungs, the liver, the right ventricle of the heart and other organs.

After 10 days of infection, ascarids penetrate into the bronchi, alveoli, oral cavity, pharynx and respiratory tract. Already repeated infection occurs when a person, together with saliva, uses larvae that enter the intestine, stomach, where they develop to adults. The whole cycle takes about three months. The most common infection is worm infestation in children, as well as in people working with the ground.

Adult individuals of worms have an elastic body and great mobility and can cause a person mechanical trauma. In severe cases, the walls of the small intestine can be damaged, and it sometimes happens that adult worms enter the respiratory tract and liver, causing complex surgical consequences through their action. Medicine is known when the larvae were found in the nasal cavity and brain.

Askaridoz: treatment and symptoms

When moving through the body, the larvae of ascaris cause toxic or allergic reactions. The patients feel itching in the nose, sneezing, coughing, rashes in the form of urticaria. People lose their efficiency, they have general tiredness and malaise. With a strong infection, the activity of larvae in human lungs can provoke a cough, cause lung pathologies, and pain behind the sternum.

At the intestinal stage, the disturbed stool, nausea, decreased appetite, abdominal pain, a person loses weight, is added to the symptoms described. Increasing in size, parasites obstruct the movement of food, disrupt the processes of absorption and digestion of nutrients. A large number of ascarids can cause intestinal obstruction.

Askaridoz: treatment and diagnostics

During the migratory stage of the disease, the diagnosis is based on the identification of larvae in sputum and the detection of a specific type of antibodies in the blood. With the help of a lung X-ray, worm infiltrates can be seen.

At the intestinal stage of ascariasis, the main method of determining the disease is to conduct an analysis of the stool in which the eggs of the helminths are present. In some cases, an ultrasound examination of the abdominal cavity and an X-ray of the intestine using a contrasting coloring agent.

Askaridoz: treatment and prevention

To get rid of parasites, prescribe drugs such as Levamisol, Albendazole, Piperazine, Pirantel, Mebendazol. Usually Pirantel and Decaris take once. The dose is calculated from the patient's body weight. The rest of the medication is taken within a few days. Upon completion of the course of treatment, a re-examination of the feces is prescribed. In allergic or toxic reactions, antiallergic therapy is performed.

Prevention of the disease includes measures of hygiene, washing vegetables, berries and fruits.
