Archangel Michael: prayer for every day. How to pray to Archangel Michael?

In Orthodoxy, the cult of angels, or, as they are also called, heavenly ethereal forces is widespread. The leader and head of the hierarchy of the latter is the archangel Michael, whose iconographic image is located below. This Hebrew name means "who is like God." For twenty centuries, his veneration in the popular masses of the people has grown and strengthened, taking his place in the spiritual practice of Eastern Christianity. How we pray to Archangel Michael, we'll talk in this article.

The daily reverence of Archangel Michael

Among all the prayer texts in which the Archangel Michael is mentioned , prayer for every day is the most common. There are several variants of it, but we will quote here one of the translations into Russian.

The text of daily prayer to Archangel Michael

O Lord, the great God, the King, who has no beginning! Send your archangel Michael to help your servants (names).
Protect us, the archangel, from all visible and invisible enemies. Oh, the great Archangel Michael of God! Crusher of demons, hold all the enemies who fight with me and make them like sheep, pacifying their evil hearts. Smash them, like the wind blows the ashes. Oh, the great Archangel Michael of God! The six-winged first ruler and commander of the heavenly host - cherubim and seraphim, be with me in adversity, misery and sorrow. Be my refuge in the desert and in the sea. Oh, the great Archangel Michael of God! Deliver me from the deceit of the devil, when you hear me, a sinner, praying to you and calling your name. Be me a swift help and subjugation of all the resisting to me by the power of the holy and life-giving cross of the Lord, by the prayers of the Most-holy Mother of God and all the saints! Oh, the great Archangel Michael of God! Help me, the sinner (name), and free me from earthquakes, floods, fires, wars and accidental death, from all evil, from flattering enemies, from the evil one, always deliver me, now and ever, and forever and ever. Amen.

The origin of the daily prayer to Archangel Michael

This is the veneration that Archangel Michael receives in the bosom of the church. The prayer for every day in this edition is the translation of one popular prayer, which comes from the peasant environment of the 16th century.

There is, however, a version that the original text of this prayer served as the final prayer of the canon to the angel of the formidable voivode, written by Tsar Ivan the Terrible under the name of Parthenius the Ugly. Not all agree with this. Some historians point out that this text, in which the Archangel Michael is mentioned, is a Catholic prayer translated into the Church Slavonic language after substantial processing for the purpose of opresvoslavlivaniya. An indirect argument of this is that a list of this prayer was found, which occurred no later than the middle of the 16th century.

The cult of Archangel Michael: from prayer to conspiracy

It should be noted that the role played by Archangel Michael in Russian society is a very strong defense against all kinds of enemies and misfortunes. This led to a rapid transformation in the popular consciousness of the actual prayer practice into the practice of conspiracies. Therefore, very often the texts in which the Archangel Michael is mentioned (prayer for every day is not an exception here) were included not only in prayer books and liturgical books, but also in lists of various conspiracies and spells. Such things have always been popular in Russia, despite the direct condemnation of the church. In fact, Orthodoxy and folk magic harmoniously co-existed among the people, compensating each other and stimulating cultural development. For example, not without the influence of village healers and healers, Archangel Michael gained influence over the church piety. The very strong defense that he provided to believers in his power made him one of the favorite characters of near-church folklore. Thus, he acquired a special position among other characters of the angelic world, who are honored in the Orthodox Church.

Some lists of this prayer are accompanied by postscript. They say among other things that the person who reads this prayer, on the day of its reading, will escape the temptations of the devil, evil spirits, resentment of enemies and will have great joy in his heart and soul. And if a person dies that day in which he reads this prayer, then his soul will be guaranteed to be saved and freed from hell.

Of course, this is far from being an Orthodox interpretation of prayer, since in the church personal piety is put in the forefront, that is what is called life in Christ. If, however, the safety, joy and even salvation of the soul are guaranteed only by daily reading of this prayer, then what is the point in such piety and in general in the church and its sacraments?

Unfortunately, such a superstitious attitude to the components of the Christian life is not uncommon in the church fence, especially among the laity. However, the approach postulating the self-acting power of a particular text is completely alien to genuine Christian spirituality.

Modern prayers to Archangel Michael

Those variants of prayer to the archangel Michael, which are widespread today, differ little from each other. Most often, the discrepancies are caused by mistakes in translations and attempts to bring the Slavonic text closer to the modern Russian language. All differences, therefore, end with a difference in endings and interchangeable synonyms.

Prayer for the President

In the last few years, one of the options for prayer began to contact the president of Russia, whose personal patron is for some reason considered archangel Michael. Prayer for every day for the president of the heavenly military leader spreads through temples and monasteries, although it has no official approval and blessing.

In this edition the surname and name of the incumbent Russian President Vladimir Putin is indicated. For example: "Lord God, great King, without a beginning, send, O, the Most High, your Archangel Michael to the aid of your slave Vladimir."

Areas of responsibility of Michael (the archangel)

It's no secret that in the church tradition between the saints there is a kind of division of labor. That is, every saint is the patron of this or that sphere of human life. This tradition was not ignored by the angelic forces. The archangel Michael is also involved in it. Who is the patron of whom this commander of the heavenly host? Of course, this military class and everything relating to it - the army, the military industry, etc. But first of all Archangel Michael is the patron of trade and business. Therefore, below, we will give the translation of the appropriate prayer, which is read by believing entrepreneurs who want to enlist the support of the great archangel in their earthly affairs. On the other hand, this division of duties is a rather conditional thing in Christianity and, in essence, alien to it. In fact, any saint can pray about anything. The same principle also applies to angelic forces, among which the Archangel Michael is no exception. Embroidery with beads, cycling, building, health, marriage, parenting - all this can be prayed to this servant of God.

Patron of the Trade Archangel Michael: A Prayer for Every Day for Trade

Oh, the great Archangel Michael of God! In humility I implore you, ask for blessings from God, may he bless me with my blessings and deeds, with which I was traced to purchase and sell earthly goods in need of them. Make me full of living faith in your help and intercession! Create me rich all that will please the will of the heavenly Father, grant me sufficient profit to be content with the state on earth, and in the future century not to lose the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. To you, oh, the great Archangel Michael of God, I cry. You first saved me and protected me, and protected me so that I would not sin. May I sin in future against faith! Hear me now and come to my rescue! I have worked hard and you are aware of my honest hands, in which there is no crime. Ask God for mercy, but reward me according to the works, according to his divine word. Let the hands filled with labor be filled so that I can live comfortably, serving God. Capture for me, the great Archangel Michael of God, may the Lord grant me earthly goods according to my labors for his glory. Amen.

Archangel Michael - defender of the devil

Church tradition tells us that the head of the angels is the main enemy of Satan and all fallen spirits. The very name Michael bears in itself the imprint of this ancient apocryphal legend, according to which the devil was once a bright angel and even the right hand of God named Dennitsa. However, he became proud, envying the man whom God extolled before the angels. Pride led Dennitsa to revolt against the Most High. Then he said that he himself would be like God, and set his throne above the stars of God. After him, a third of the angels fell away. But one of the archangels, hearing this impertinence, exclaimed: "Who is like God?" - and led the angelic legions who remained faithful to the Almighty. In memory of this, he was called "who is like God," that is, Michael in Hebrew. It is in this role demonobortsa often depicted Archangel Michael, a photo of which can be in this article. Therefore, Christians also often pray to him for protection from demons and witchcraft.
