All blue-eyed people are united by one thing

There is a hypothesis that blue-eyed people have a common ancestor. They are one ancient European, whose age is six to ten thousand years. He had a specific genetic mutation, because of which there was another color of the iris of the eye.

What the common unites the blue-eyed

Initially, all people were brown-eyed. However, genetic changes, including those related to the OCA2 gene, have led to the emergence of various shades of brown. Based on this data, the researchers tried to find the source of the pigment, which is responsible for the blue eyes in the OCA2 gene, but without success.

Recently, scientists have made a discovery: the reason for the appearance of blue-eyed people lies in the mutation of the neighboring gene HERC2. That is, the OCA2 gene, which determines the amount of melanin (brown pigment), does not affect the coloring of the iris of the eye in blue. Scientists believe that this mutation first occurred when there was a massive migration of people from Africa to Europe. It can be suggested that people with blue eyes are the descendants of one European who lived in antiquity.

This hypothesis is confirmed by the fact that every blue-eyed man has the same mutation. The personality of this common ancestor is not disclosed.

Archaeologists have discovered a skeleton in Northern Spain, which had blue eyes. The age of the skeleton is 7 thousand years. Naturally, the eye was not found in it, but the genetic analysis proved: there is a mutation that colored the iris of the eye in blue.
