Aligning the site with your own hands

During the development of virgin land there are always a number of problems. For example, before you start mastering, you need to align the area, but the biggest problem has always been stubbing stumps. There are a lot of options for this laborious process. You can, of course, use the old antiquated method: digging around from all sides and pulling them out of the ground with the help of a tractor.

But the most common method - the burning of stumps - is to drill holes up to the roots and fill the resin with the substances that contribute to the decomposition of the tree: salt, saltpeter, special chemistry.

Alignment of the site should not violate the main terrain and natural water flows. Otherwise, instead of the removed holes, new ones are formed, because the flows will always flow down to the lowest places. On the territory there are always places where moisture accumulates constantly. They are called pits and "mirrors." They need to be eliminated by removing black soil and filling the cavity. Then the fertile layer returns. Alignment of the site can be done with just two instruments: the level and level. Level - two glass vessels, connected by a hose and filled with water. According to the laws of physics, the water in the communicating vessels is always at the same level.

Most often, the average height of the terrain is selected, and then some plots are raised, and others are torn down. To determine the required level, pegs are jammed into the ground at different points in the plot. After comparing the height of each peg, it will become clear which areas need to be ripped off and which ones to lift.

Some garden areas are often located on the slopes of the hills. The house on the slope is a very interesting thing, you can differently beat its placement, in the design plan. But here the land will not be used to the full: the rain all the time washes away the fertile layer of the earth and any fertilizers, making it unfit for farming, because plants can not hold onto it. In addition, the processing of such a site can cause a lot of inconvenience, and if you install a retaining wall at the bottom of the site, you can not do without terraces. In this case, it is simply necessary to carry out the alignment of the suburban area on the hillside. Depends on the steepness of the slope, the number of steps of the terrace and their height is determined. The common width of the terrace is 70-150 centimeters, and with this size it is possible to create a garden.

Only after forming the horizontals of the terrace can you make steps. They should be slightly under the slope, so that water drains from them, and the soil does not fall off. Steps should not be too high, because then they will turn into retaining walls, and all efforts will go to dust if they are not further strengthened. Alignment of the site involves the construction of exactly such stepped terraces, and the retaining walls can wait and if the slope is not very steep.

Guided by simple rules, which describe the alignment of the land, any summer resident will be able to create a suitable soil for agriculture, a seemingly hopeless slope.
