Algae in the aquarium: species and the fight against them.

Algae are green or brown growths that form on the surface of plants. You can also say about them that these are photosynthetic organisms that produce chlorophyll, to some extent they resemble plants. But in fact, the algae in the aquarium are pests, and therefore it is mistaken to call them plants.

When these organisms begin to grow intensively, they give considerable care not only to beginners, but also experienced aquarists. As a rule, the intensive growth of algae is affected by a large amount of light, as well as organic matter found in the aquarium. For example, if the fish processes the required amount of food for plant growth, then a green or brown outgrowth will be quite easy to get along.

Algae in the aquarium are not that attractive, and getting rid of them is extremely difficult. It is not a secret that even small pieces of such organisms are part of the ecosystem, and in this connection they are able to receive food from different sources in the aquarium.

In the event that you have an algal rug in your aquarium, they will start to multiply and compete with the plants, selecting all the nutrients that it contains. The active growth of photosynthetic organisms occurs, as a rule, once a year.

Algae in the aquarium are of different types. The sprouts of different colors, referred to in the article, can benefit you and your fish. When there is a sufficiently high level of nutrients in the aquarium, they absorb their excess part, and this, in turn, makes the water cleaner. So, this process positively affects the organisms that live in the aquarium.

In addition, the algae in the aquarium serve as an indicator of the state in which it is located. For this reason, chemical means aimed at combating these pests should not be used immediately. It is better to use "natural methods" first. In addition, the use of chemicals can cause stress in the inhabitants of the aquarium.

So, harmful growths are green, red, brown (diatoms), blue-green.

Green algae in the aquarium are long green threads. In order for them to grow actively, they need a large amount of sunlight. It should be noted that such organisms are often dangerous to plants because they take all the nutrients from them. But there is a way out of the struggle with them: it is mechanical cleaning or special fish - algaeids.

Floating green algae resemble green blooming water. Advised in the fight against them to resort to frequent water changes. You can also use an algaecide.

If you find green points on the walls of the aquarium, then this is also one of the representatives of green algae. Fight with such a pest can be with the help of snails, fish that feed on these organisms, or scrapers.

Brown algae in the aquarium look like brown mucus, growing on stones, soil, glass and even on plants. For seaweed, this is one of your favorite treats. It is noticed that the higher the level of illumination, the less the number of such growths.

The most harmful are blue-green algae, in contrast to the usual green, they are able to produce substances that are very toxic to fish. In this case, the growth of these organisms is affected by strong lighting, as well as a large number of nitrates, phosphates. Fish do not eat such parasites, so the best fight against them is to completely turn off the light in the aquarium, it is recommended to change the water frequently.

Thus, algae are parasitic organisms, it will be better if their number in the aquarium is minimal.
