What buttons to copy and paste: tips for different OS

Keyboard shortcuts that allow you to perform various operations on the computer, were invented even before the invention of the graphic interface. With his appearance, the user is accustomed to performing all actions with the mouse, but nevertheless the "hot keys" are preserved. In this article, we'll tell you which buttons to press to copy and paste not only fragments of text, but also whole files.

Modifier keys

On the keyboard, in addition to the alphanumeric series, there are so-called modifier keys. Some of them, such as Shift, are used every day, and some can never be pressed for the entire duration of the keyboard.

The standard set of modifiers includes:

  • Alt - on the keyboard "poppy" it is called Option;
  • Control - Ctrl often occurs;
  • Shift, right and left;
  • The button "with a window", or the Windows logo (on the "poppies" it replaces the Command key).

Four of these modifiers are present on any keyboard and are used in all operating systems. As can be seen from the above, they differ slightly in names, but their functionality does not change from this. Knowing what for which buttons on the keyboard, copy and paste any data you can be much faster than using just one mouse.

Keyboard shortcuts

The method of applying and assigning "hot keys" in different OSes differs, and as a result they do not always coincide. However, file operations common to all are called by similar combinations. In our material, we give combinations for the three most used operating systems.

What buttons to copy and paste into the OS "Vindous"? Windows keyboards are the most common, as well as the operating system itself. The process of copying in it is made by a combination of keys "Control + C", and the insertion - "Control + V". The letter buttons are located in the bottom row, near the Ctrl key, and the operation with them is easy.

Speaking of which buttons to copy and paste in the Linux operating system family, it should be noted that in the "hotkeys" of window management, this system is very different from Windows, but the operations of pasting and copying are the same. There are no special keyboards for this OS, so you do not need to retrain the user.

Now about what buttons to copy and paste into MacOS. This family of operating systems has its own keyboard. It does not have a Windows key, it is replaced by its own, called Command. The keyboard combination for copying is "Command + C", and for insertion - "Command + V".

What buttons to copy and paste in office packages

Copying and pasting in all variants of text and tabular processors, regardless of their developer, coincides with that of the operating system. Within one document, you can quickly move the same text fragments, without wasting time on their redialling. However, in the case of working with different documents, this option may lead to a malfunction of the formatting in the text. Therefore, the best way to transfer text between different documents will still be the use of the context menu, rather than the "hot keys".

In general, knowledge of keyboard combinations with which the most common file operations are performed will always come in handy, or at least will not be superfluous.
