Treatment of astigmatism in children can last for many years

In a healthy person, the optical system of the eye consists of one focus. But very often it happens that in one eye there are two focuses at once, which do not allow the light beam to converge at one point, but project it onto the retina at several points at once. As a result, people see distorted, regardless of the distance at which this or that object is placed. This suggests that he has a disease such as astigmatism. Normally, the bagel eye has a so-called spherical shape, when its refractive force is the same both vertically and horizontally. With astigmatism, the whole refractive force is different, ie, for example, vertically, it can be stronger, and horizontally weaker.

It should be noted that many inhabitants of the planet have such an unequal power of refraction, only this difference is insignificant, only 0.5 diopters. This difference a person does not feel, and his vision does not need correction. But if the refractive power is already higher than this index, then vision is deteriorating noticeably, it needs correction. Astigmatism is a congenital disease, so it can manifest itself at any age, both in early childhood and in adulthood. In this case, astigmatism of the eyes in children is a more common disease, requiring immediate correction.

Treatment of astigmatism in children can be quite successful if the disease itself is detected in time. If a child often tells his parents that he does not see well, if he often has a headache and a brow, if he is quickly tired with reading and other visual loads, he should immediately be shown to the ophthalmologist. It is worth noting that the treatment of astigmatism in children under one year is not very simple, because it is quite difficult to identify the disease itself. For this purpose, special equipment is used, and unfortunately it does not exist in every clinic. Most often, ophthalmologists diagnose children of the second year of life. This is the age when you can predict the further development of the visual system and take the necessary measures to treat a particular pathology.

Treatment of astigmatism in children can be prescribed only after a complex examination of the visual system of a small patient. It is not always easy to do this, as not all children can tell about their concerns. Further adjustment with astigmatism will be prescribed, based on the age and characteristics of the particular child. A prerequisite, which includes the treatment of astigmatism in children, is the appointment of wearing glasses. And to do this the child must constantly, in some cases, all his life. Contact lenses can be prescribed by a doctor at an older age and then not always. It is worth paying attention to the fact that wearing glasses is not a means of treating astigmatism, it only contributes to the fact that the child sees the world better and does not experience discomfort when considering certain subjects.

What then should be the treatment of astigmatism in children, in order to permanently get rid of this pathology? The unambiguous answer is this: finally you can get rid of astigmatism only with the help of a surgical operation. It is held only by those who have reached the age of twenty. There are several types of such operations, from which the doctor chooses what will be appropriate for the treatment of a particular patient.

It is worth noting that the astigmatism of the eyes in children does not progress, such as myopia. This means that compliance with all prescriptions of a doctor can help to get rid of this pathology forever. Parents should ensure that their child wears glasses and does not take them off when doing homework, reading, etc. An obligatory condition is a regular visit to the ophthalmologist. As the child grows quickly, it becomes necessary to change the optics of the glasses. Do this by age.
