To help the builder: the weight and size of the I-beam

One of the popular types of rolled metal is a beam, in a section similar to the two-sided letter T. The size of the I-beam depends on its purpose and varies from four to 12 meters.

I-beam: types

Types of profiles are divided into ordinary and special, designed to work in specific conditions (for the installation of monorails, reinforcement of shafts). Depending on the type, the length of the profile can be a dimensional, multiple dimensional, dimensional or multiple to it with a remainder (up to 5% batch weight), as well as immeasurable. The direct I-beam size corresponds to the distance from one outer edge of the shelf to the other.

I-beams, depending on the species, have significant differences in size. For example, the thickness of the shelf is a variable, because it is directly related to its shape (inclined faces or parallel). I also distinguish I-beams from the material from which they are made, since this affects their use on certain objects (from special steels, from carbon or low-alloy steel, hot-rolled steel beams go separately).

Standards for I-beams

There are several generally accepted standards that unify the size of the I-beam depending on the way it is manufactured and used. For example, the standard for hot-rolled steel I-bars controls the produced assortment according to the main parameters - actual dimensions, cross-section, specific weight 1 m, reference values of the maximum loads along the axes.

By the accuracy of rolling distinguish beams conventional (with the marking B) or increased accuracy (marking B).

Separate standards control the dimensions of assortment of I-beams, in which the sides of parallel shelves, steel hot-rolled, steel special, other types of special beams I-beams, and I-beams are manufactured according to the specifications of manufacturing plants.

In each of the existing guests, the control dimension of the I-beam (its height, width and average thickness of the shelf, wall thickness, radius of curvature of the inner and shelves), mass of the linear meter (kg) and the number of meters in a ton of I-beams are indicated.

GOST requirements for I-beam 36

For example, we are interested in an I-beam, whose dimensions are determined by GOST 8239-89. Drawings of such profiles are usually provided by the standard and carry a detailed background information, built on the geometric dimensions of the beam. They, in turn, correspond to the physical characteristics of the profile, which is important for its application.

The standard specifies the parameters inherent in this type of profile, which are the reference for both producers and buyers. Thus, the I-beam 36. Dimensions: 36 cm in height, 14.5 cm in width of shelf, 0.75 cm in wall thickness, 12.3 mm in average thickness of the shelf, with the inner rounding having a radius of no more than 1.4 cm, curvature of the shelf - up to 0.6 cm.

A special type I-type double-T-bar is used for guiding suspended cranes and hoists, since the thickness of the shelves is increased in comparison with the usual ones.

Also looking at the reference tables of the standard, you can accurately determine the weight of the running meter (specific gravity) of the I-36, which is always the same and is 48.6 kg.
