The most beautiful castles in the Czech Republic. Castle of bones in the Czech Republic

Those who erected centuries ago the castles of the Czech Republic probably could not even imagine that hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world will walk through them one day.

In the Czech Republic, castles were built for practical reasons - to protect the troops of various enemy states who dreamed of seizing the wealth and land of this country.

Medieval fortresses in the following centuries were repeatedly rebuilt. Castles of the Czech Republic gradually turned from military fortresses into luxurious residences of noble families (Lihensteins, Schwarzenbergs and others), as well as monarchs. However, powerful towers and their walls, growing out of the rocks, still showed inaccessibility and grandeur.

Castles of the Czech Republic for modern tourists - a source of artistic impressions. At the same time, it is an opportunity to look at the lives of their inhabitants through the ages. There are almost all the castles of the Czech Republic mentioned in this article near Prague.

Prague Castle

Going to the Czech capital, you should definitely visit this most famous castle in the country. It is the central sight of the city. Prague Castle was the main residence of Czech kings (today - the presidents). He grew up from a fortress erected in 880 on this site. Prague Castle has since experienced periods of oblivion and several destructive raids. However, the time passed, and he was reborn again, embodying the inviolability of the monarch's power.

Prague Castle today is an architectural museum, which behind its walls has collected particles from different eras of history. The most ancient "artifacts" are parts of the wall of the church of the Virgin Mary erected here (date back to the 9th century), as well as the rotunda of St. Vita (dates from the 10th century), which is "hidden" in the basement of St. Vita (14th century), its majestic Gothic descendant.

Karlštejn

Karlštejn is the second most visited castle in the Czech Republic after the Prague Castle. Its square tower and gray-green roofs look at tourists from almost all the guidebooks. This attracts many people the spirit of the legendary era, which glorified throughout Europe the Czech kingdom. If you decide to see the most beautiful castles in the Czech Republic, do not forget to visit Karlstejn.

Built castle was Charles IV - the first king of the Czech Republic, who was able to become the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. This building was a reliable military fortification for Karl, its majestic country residence and at the same time a treasure trove, as it housed works of art, jewelry, royal regalia.

Hluboka nad Vltavou

Almost 300 thousand tourists come annually to look at the castle Hluboka nad Vltavou (Czech Republic), agree that it is one of the most romantic and beautiful in this country. Therefore, if you want your beloved to feel like a princess from a fairy tale - be sure to visit this place together (you can even arrange a wedding ceremony here). The Czech Republic, whose castles and fortresses amaze with its grandeur, is an ideal place for a romantic trip.

Gluboka was built in the 13th century, but acquired its neo-Gothic shine later, in the second half of the 19th century. This style at that time, in the romantic era, was extremely popular. The Hluboká Castle (Czech Republic) is interesting both outside and inside. Inside you will find collections of various works of art, as well as luxurious historical interiors.

Czech krumlov

A unique historical monument is the Czech Krumlov. UNESCO did not accidentally include it in the list of World Heritage sites. Cesky Krumlov is an entire ancient city. On the rocky ledge in the center of it rises the castle itself. The medieval street layout here has survived until now. You can see in this place buildings related to the most diverse architectural epochs (from the 14th to the 19th century). About 300 thousand tourists come here every year to feel the fragrance of the past.

The most famous of all the inhabitants of this castle is the Archduke Ferdinand. It was with the murder of this man that the First World War began. However, tourists are attracted here not only this fact. Konopiště, a Gothic castle, is located in a very picturesque place. It is located on the wooded shore of the lake.

In addition, here you can find the largest collection of historical weapons in Europe, as well as hunting trophies and armor, not including works of fine art and majolica collections.

Sikhrov

Sikhrov was never a military structure. It was created in the late 17th century, when chivalrous times had long ago been forgotten. Sikhrov became a castle-manor, executed in the French spirit, which was brought here by the Rogan-Rochefor, its owners. They collected a very interesting collection of paintings here, but the main riches of the castle were miniatures of the 16th century, a collection of antique furniture, a luxurious library, the Dvorak Museum, carved wood interiors, and the ghost of the "black lady".

Loket

Loket Castle (Czech Republic) is visited by those who want to see the real antiquity. It is one of the best in the country, which has preserved almost completely the medieval appearance: powerful towers, small windows, stone walls. Loket is especially distinguished among the other castles-palaces, luxuriously trimmed, with its serious and dusky look. But this should be expected from the building, which is a border fortress, built not for entertainment at the inaccessible bend of the river Ohří.

Romanesque rotunda, dating back to the 12th century, is considered the oldest of the remaining buildings, of which the castle Loket (Czech Republic). You are waited inside by the museum of Czech porcelain. The Karlovy Vary region is famous for its products. Also you will find a book binding museum and a basement exposition of an ancient prison with tools of torture exhibited here.

Orlik nad Vltavou

Describing the most beautiful castles of the Czech Republic, it is impossible not to mention Orlik over Vltava. The name "Orlik" is an echo of the memory of the eagles that once lived in the vicinity of this place. The building itself is located on a high rocky promontory, which cuts into the river. Orlik Castle (Czech Republic) resembles in itself a nest of a mountainous majestic bird. Now, when the waters of the Vltava River, the Orlitsky Reservoir, have got close to the walls, hiding the peaks that surrounded it, we still do not cease to admire the charm of the white carved towers of this castle shining against the sky.

Travelers, in addition, attracts here a motley, but very interesting exposition, united in which are historical relics of the Schwarzenbergs, a famous family. A very interesting collection of firearms dating back to the 17th-20th centuries, a library, hunting trophies and an archaeological collection in which exhibits of the Troy times are represented.

Melnik

This castle is loved by tourists not only for the picturesque countryside, but also for Mount Rzip, a national shrine. Very interesting here is the architecture of the Renaissance, the Lobkowitz family collections and historical interiors. Melnik, in addition, is the center of winemaking in the Czech Republic. This brought the vine from Burgundy himself Charles IV, the emperor, and established the production of the famous drink with the help of the French. In the cellars of the castle today you can appreciate the Czech wine wealth.

Lednice

The Lednice Castle in the Czech Republic, which belongs to the possession of the Liechtenstein, is a magnificent example of the so-called "new Gothic". It was created on the site of a former medieval castle. Lednice is included in the complex, the area of which is 200 km 2 , to which belongs a huge park and baroque Valtice palace.

The park, which is called the "Garden of Europe", is an authentic masterpiece of landscape architecture, made in the landscape style of England. Interesting finds await those who decide to walk along it: pavilions, temples, arbours, ponds, caves and artificial "ruins", a minaret, an aqueduct and others.

Cesky Sternberk

This unapproachable Gothic structure rises formidably above the Sazava River. The castle of Sternberg in the Czech Republic is one of the most visited and ancient in this country. It was founded on the site of an ancient fortification in the 13th century. The castle is the ancestral nest of Sternberg - the richest and most famous noble family in the Czech Republic.

The halls are richly decorated. Impressive Knights, the largest of the main halls, decorated with unique chandeliers from crystal, dating back to the 18th century. Each of them weighs 300 kg. There is furniture in this hall, which served since the 16th century to the owners. Carl Brentan, an Italian artist, performed the murals on the ceiling here.

The castle of Sternberg in the Czech Republic was nationalized after the war, and only in Zdenek von Sternberg, the last owner, who resides permanently here and sometimes conducts excursions, was returned only in 1992.

These are the main castles of the Czech Republic. I want to talk about another interesting place that can be found in this country. This is the city of Kutna Hora.

Church of the Bones

In the Czech Republic is an unremarkable little town of Kutna Hora. Here, as in other small settlements, there is a church, a town hall and some area.

He probably would have remained unknown, had it not been for the plague epidemic that took place in the 14th century, which claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people, and if a wood carver did not decide in 5 centuries to "tidy up" the remains of those dead.

Bones and skulls were decorated ... with a church. Kutna Hora has since become a favorite destination for tourists from all over the world, attracted by all the mysterious and gloomy.

The story of the Barns

Otakar II, King of the Czech Republic, sent to Palestine one abbot about the second half of the 13th century. The abbot brought a little land from his trip abroad. He scattered it in the cemetery. The earth, I must say, was unusual. The priest took her at Calvary, the place where Jesus Christ was crucified, according to the New Testament.

Since then, the sacred land in the city of Kutna Hora is considered. There were rumors that the body began to decompose only on the third day after the person was buried. Soon the glory of the Holy Land located in the center of Europe has spread to other countries. Many famous people from various countries wanted to be buried in the town of Kutna Hora in a local cemetery.

In Bohemia in the 14th century the plague spread. Thousands of relatives from all corners of the earth drove the dead to the place where there was a piece of the Holy Land.

Epidemics and medieval wars also contributed to the fact that the cemetery grew more and more. It was built in 1400 by a Gothic cathedral. His tomb was a pantry for bones, which they extracted from their graves.

The name of the person who came up with the first order of all these bone piles, unfortunately, is unknown. It is believed that they were one half-blind monk. It was he who dismantled the skulls of skulls and bones and built 6 pyramids of them.

After 400 years, the emperor ordered this cathedral to close. Then the family of Schwarzenberg decided to buy the church together with the lands around. Since there was nowhere to sell the remnants of the land, Schwarzenberg decided to hire an "interior designer" in order that he transformed at least somehow this area. Frantisek Rinta, a woodworker, approached quite creatively to the task. Now we can see the unique creation of art.

The interior of the church

There is nothing special about the church in this city, it does not differ from the outside. We see a somewhat gloomy building, surrounded by slabs and stone monuments. However, as you know, appearance is often deceiving. Everything changes when you get inside.

In every corner of this building there are small pyramids of bones. A huge beautiful candelabrum hangs in the middle. It consists of human bones of all kinds. A separate element of the decor is the chandelier in the cathedral. Hundreds of tourists are eager to get inside this temple because of it. If you look closely, you can see that it is fixed to the ceiling with jaws. It is difficult to imagine, but in this church there are bones of people, the number of which exceeds 40 thousand.

The castle of bones in the Czech Republic is the main attraction of Kutna Hora. In addition, you can visit the national museum located here, the mint, as well as the Cathedral of St. Barnabas, and simply walk along the beautiful and atmospheric streets of the city.
