The mammary gland - what can it threaten?

The mammary gland can often be susceptible to various diseases, which are characteristic not only of older women but also of younger age.

The most common pathology of the breast is mastopathy, which can be as diffuse, that is, spread to both glands and nodular, which is a tumor of its individual site. The pathology of the female breast can be of a different nature: it can be caused by excessive overgrowth of connective tissue (fibrous mastopathy), cystic (the appearance of cavities in the glandular tissue , which are usually filled with liquid) or glandular tissue. Usually, the disease can not be unequivocally attributed to any particular type mentioned above, since often several manifestations of mastopathy are observed simultaneously.

The mammary gland can become a place of development of fibroadenoma, which is considered a benign tumor of this organ. It represents a seal in the form of a knot that, when touched, does not cause any painful sensations and easily moves under external influence.

This pathology and the like can often vary greatly and take on a malignant character. To prevent this from happening, it is important that, if benign neoplasms are found, treatment of the breast is not postponed. And in time to detect a hidden pathology, it is recommended to undergo regular examination at a mammalian doctor (once a year). This examination should be accompanied by procedures such as ultrasound and breast mammography. The first study is recommended for women of all ages. However, mammography is often prescribed to women over the age of 45. This is due to the fact that ultrasound does not have any negative effect on the patient's body, while mammography is based on the use of X-rays, the frequent effect of which can cause the development of certain pathological processes in the body.

If the patient's mammary gland undergoes pathological changes, it often manifests itself as symptoms, which for many diseases of this organ are the same. The most remarkable of them is the pain in the gland, which can be both pointlike and common. The pain can be either from one side or both, sometimes they can depend on the menstrual cycle of the patient. In addition to pain, there may be a secretion of an unusual secretion from the nipples. It can be greenish, white or red.

As already mentioned, the mammary gland in pathologies often changes its density, there are solid nodules, seals, which can also pass to the axillary region. Usually, these internal changes are accompanied by external symptoms: redness, blueness, swelling, or vomiting. Also, the shape and structure of the breast nipple may change: the skin may peel off, the nipple may be retracted or swollen. There may also be a change in the size or shape of only one breast.
