Plot

Since the end of the previous film nine years have passed. Alejandro de la Vega is married to Helene, he has a son Joaquin. All these years, Alejandro helps the authorities as much as possible, hiding the true identity of Zorro even from his own son. Elena dreams that one day her husband will leave his exploits for the good of the country and devote himself to the family, but Alejandro does not want to hear about it. The fight for justice is the most important thing for him.

The state of California votes for accession to the US, but an armed criminal named Jacob McGuins tears off the vote and steals a ballot box with ballots. Trying to prevent him, Alejandro loses his mask during the chase. Two detectives from the Pinkerton agency will recognize the true identity of Zorro. They decide to use Alejandro's oversight for their own purposes. With the help of blackmail, they force Elena to divorce her husband and fulfill their demands.

It takes three months. Alejandro lives in a city hotel, never knowing why Elena left him. All this time, Zorro's services were unnecessary, and Alejandro, who is exhausted from boredom and idleness, drinks a lot. To briefly distract Zorro, the priest Felipe, his longtime friend, offers to go to the reception to the Earl of Arman, who recently arrived from Europe. There Alejandro learns that Elena meets with Arman. This becomes a serious blow for him.

But the count, Elena's new elect, is not as open and honest as it seems. He is part of the Order of the Knights of Aragon, who wants to crush the United States with the help of powerful weapons. The sequence of mysterious and terrible events helps Alejandro to reveal Arman's plans. Only Zorro can resist the omnipotent order, save the country from irreversible collapse and return the beloved woman.

Criticism

The film was coldly received by critics and received for the most part negative reviews. Washington Post called the film "a waste of talent and money," as well as "stupid and boring." Most critics noted that compared to the picture "Mask of Zorro", the second film of the series turned out to be "less charismatic."

American writer and film critic James Berardinelli noted that the viewer will not get such pleasure as when watching the picture "Mask of Zorro" in 1998.

The San Francisco Chronicle magazine commented on the movie as follows: "Watchable." Not pleasurable, but watchable. "

Of course, this reaction of critics can not be called expected. The first part was nominated for several Golden Globe awards and received mostly good reviews. Negative reviews of the second film, however, did not prevent him from getting a high viewer rating on many sites.

Actors who played in the movie "The Legend of Zorro" did not receive any awards.

Fees

Despite the rout of critics, the picture brought to the creators quite good fees. One of the reasons for the box-office success of the film "The Legend of Zorro" is the actors who performed the main roles.

Each of them in itself guarantees the film box office success. With a budget of $ 75 million, the film raised 140 million at the box office, and that's a lot.
