Temple of the New Martyrs in Strogino: a community, a church, a schedule of services

The Church of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia in Strogino is still under construction, but services are already being conducted within the walls of the church. The community was organized in 2000.

To whom the temple is dedicated

The Church of the New Martyrs in Strogino is dedicated to people who accepted torment, persecution and even death in the name of God. Biblical stories about those who suffered for the Orthodox faith are familiar to many, but when creating the community and laying the temple, it was about the heroes of recent history, almost about our contemporaries. The first temples of the Christian faith were erected near the graves of the ascetics and guardians of the faith and bore their names. The twentieth century severely treated the church and many deeply religious people, their names and exploits became an example of service to faith and the Fatherland.

History of the community

The Church of the New Martyrs in Strogino began with the community, which was registered in 2000. A year later, permission was received to divert a piece of land for the construction of a church on Stroginsky Boulevard. In 2002, permission was issued for the construction of the church, with the reservation that the construction will be limited to a single building that does not provide for a complex of buildings.

The first relics arrived in the future church of the New Martyrs in Strogino in 2004. The pilgrims brought the relics from the monastery of Mary Magdalene (Mount of Olives) with the relics of Grand Duchess Elizabeth and the nun Varvara, as well as the icon with their faces.

The temporary church was installed and consecrated in April 2008, in the winter of 2010, the construction of a prosphony was laid, in which the first batch of artos was baked by Easter 2011. In 2012, the foundation stone was consecrated at the base of the church, and the temple was first received in 2013.

Architecture

The Church of the New Martyrs in Strogino is still under construction, but its uncommon architecture already evokes interest and pleases with Old Russian motifs. The building of impressive size looks very light, thanks to the snow-white color of the walls, carved and keeled elements. According to the project, it will accommodate 650 people, the height of the church is 48.5 meters, the total area of more than 700 square meters.

The church consists of four gradually narrowing tiers, the uppermost serving as a belfry with a light drum crowned with an onion dome. Three apses of a semicircular shape adjoin the main room. The author of the project - architect Alexander Pronin, drew ideas and style from the epoch of Tsar Ivan the Terrible. To repeat some of the decor elements of that time, almost every brick was individually and handcrafted.

Service schedule and address

Since 2015, the Church of the New Martyrs in Strogino opened doors for worship. Today, finishing work inside the premises is being carried out, by the beginning of 2017 the stage of laying the marble floor has been completed. There are several public Orthodox organizations in the church: a Sunday school, a youth club, circles of help and enlightenment (a group of prison services, VDA, social service, a knitting circle, etc.).

Temple of the New Martyrs in Strogino, schedule of services:

• Early liturgical service on weekdays starts at 07:00.
• Late liturgy on weekdays - 08:00, in the evening the service starts at 18:00.
• The Saturday morning service is 07:00 and 08:00, the evening all-night vigil is held from 18:00.
• Sunday: morning services - 07:00 and 10:00, Akathist - 17:00, Vespers and Matins at 18:00.

Photo of the church being built is popular to many, in reality it claims to be the pearl of the new architecture. The church is open daily until 22:00.
