Stewed cabbage with potatoes: tasty, simple and cheap

One of the most common dishes, stewed cabbage, is also one of the most loved and respected in our daily kitchen. It can be used as a side dish, as an independent dish, and also add potatoes, rice, beans, meat and sausage if desired. In addition, that the products for its preparation are virtually worthless, it also contains many vitamins. And the time during which stewed cabbage with potatoes, beans, meat or just without everything is being cooked is not so great.

In case you decide to diversify the classic stewed cabbage, for example, potatoes or rice, you need to start with the preparation of the cabbage itself: it stews for a longer time than any other vegetables or even meat.

First you need to wash and chop cabbage. Remember that the thinner the resulting straw, the less time you will need to prepare the dish.

After that, pour the vegetable oil into the frying pan, spread the cut cabbage (if it is a lot, you can spread it in pieces, waiting for the bottom layer to be slightly fried and the cabbage will decrease in volume) and start frying over low heat, stirring constantly to avoid burning.

To stew cabbage with potatoes turned out especially tasty, after about fifteen minutes of frying in a frying pan add chopped onion and grated carrot on a large grater. The quantity of onions and carrots everyone defines for himself: someone likes a sweet carrot or onion taste, and someone prefers not to interrupt the natural taste of cabbage.

Then everything is roasted for about ten minutes, after which add water and begin to extinguish for half an hour (depending on the desire to get a firmer or softer consistency of cabbage).

At this time you can peel the potatoes and cut it into small pieces. Many experienced housewives advise to try cabbage, before you spread into it chopped potatoes: cabbage should be almost ready.

After this stewed cabbage with potatoes continue to cook together for about twenty minutes - until the time of softening the potatoes.

Before the end of quenching, salt the dish and add black pepper and other spices as desired.

The recipe for this dish is almost identical to the one described above, but with one change: instead of potatoes, you will add beans to the almost ready cabbage.

Beans for this dish are prepared in a classic way: leave it overnight in water for swelling. Then the water is drained and the beans are started to boil in clean water. The beans are also cooked until ready-about an hour.

After that, in the cooked cabbage cooked up, ready-cooked beans, salt and pepper are added to taste.

All this is stewed for another fifteen minutes. By the way, some prefer to shorten the cooking time and use canned beans that taste almost the same as cooked at home.

If you do not have a bean at hand, you can safely cook a dish like cabbage with rice.

The principle of cooking can be left the same as in the preparation of cabbage with beans, that is - separately weld rice and then add it to the finished cabbage.

However, it is better to drop the rice and put the dish out until it is completely ready for the end of cabbage quenching. Time should be calculated taking into account the fact that rice is usually ready after twenty minutes.

In the same way, you can add meat, minced meat, sausage, eggs, zucchini, paprika or any other ingredients to stewed cabbage, depending on your fantasy and taste preferences.
