Southern Military District: headquarters, command, troops

It is difficult to overestimate the importance of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Political events develop in such a way that strong Armed Forces are simply necessary for Russia.

The history of the SWO

In 1918, the North Caucasian Military District was established, and the Army of the North Caucasus was named the eleventh army. The following year the First Cavalry Army was created here, headed by SM Budenyi.

Many then were awarded orders and decorations, and Major D.V. Vetchinov (posthumously), Lieutenant-Colonel K.A. Temerman, Captain Yu.P. Yakovlev and Sergeant S.A. In 2009, military bases of Russia, included in the military district, were formed in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Military reform

At the end of 2010, four military districts were formed instead of six - Central, Western, Eastern and Southern. The latter is located within the boundaries of the North Caucasian Military District, which includes the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla, the fourth Air Force command and air defense, the 49th and 58th Armies.

Location

At the moment, the troops of the Southern Military District are located in the Southern, North-Caucasian and Crimean federal districts, fourteen subjects of the Russian Federation. Outside of Russia - in Armenia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia - there are military bases that are also part of the South-Eastern Military District. Command of the Southern Military District

Lieutenant-General A.V. Galkin commands the troops. After graduating from the command school, he served in Germany and the Far East, having served as commander of a motorized rifle battalion. He reached the rank of commander of the 41st Army in the city of Novosibirsk. Since 2010, it is the commander of the Southern Military District. Lieutenant-General A.V. Galkin is subordinated to all troops on the territory of the district, except for the troops of the East Kazakhstan region and the Missile Forces. Military Doctrine

Exercises of Russian troops

The Ministry of Defense reports that in 2015 about four thousand exercises will be conducted in the Russian troops.

It is also planned to hold international exercises. Among them - the Russian-Belarusian "Union Shield-2015", international games "Tank Biathlon 2015", contests for different types of Armed Forces.

In the ground forces will hold up to one hundred and fifty exercises, rocket forces - up to one hundred maneuvers.

Exercises in the Southern Military District

The exercises conducted in the South-East Division each time confirm an excellent preparation for repulsing the attack, if necessary. The Office of the Southern Military District plans in 2015 to conduct more than 20 exercises of internal, as well as ten international exercises.

In 2014, the intensity of practical exercises has significantly increased, more than thirty polygons are involved.

The troops of the Southern Military District participated in the joint Russian-Indian exercise.

More than 370 exercises and 150 training sessions were conducted by rocket troops and artillery.

The Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla sold about 300 combat exercises.

Military engineers cleared more than three thousand hectares of agricultural land on the territory of Chechnya and Ingushetia, neutralized more than three thousand shells and mines. Their annual plan was exceeded by 22%.

The headquarters of the Southern Military District reports that in 2015, no less intensity of the exercises is expected, and the number of international exercises will increase. Therefore, the southern boundary of Russia will be reliably protected.
