Rich in natural attractions Stavropol region is famous not only for mineral waters, but also for therapeutic mud. In the world of medicine they have been used for several millennia. In Russia, the first to use them in the Astrakhan region, in the middle of the 13th century.
In the Stavropol Territory there are five known places of therapeutic mud. This lake Big Tambukan, Salt (Lushnikovskoe), Salt (Krasnogvardeisky district), Manych-Gudilo and Solenoy in the Alexander district.

The salt lake in the Stavropol Territory, located near Svetlograd, has the shape of a slightly elongated circle (4.6x6 km). The depth, even in the rainiest period, does not exceed 60 cm. The lake feeds on several springs and rains. Judging by the scientific calculations, in water with a predominance of sodium chloride contains about 280 ml / l of calcium chloride and 202 mg / l of magnesium chloride. The layer of silt reaches already nine meters.
The salt lake in the Stavropol Territory (Alexandrovsky district) boasts a Neogene relic residing in it. This is the pinniped crustacean artemia salina. It feeds on excess naselle growing here.
On the shores of the lake grows a lot of grass. Meadow-steppe predominates: chicory, iris leafless, Biberstein tulip, spring spring, mountain clover, six-leaved meadow-grass, etc.
Because of the specific composition of the water on the shores of the lake, there is not a large variety of birds. Inhabit only chibis, gerbil and broad-clover, stop make migratory goose, coot, mute swan and duck-mallard.
