Safari style in the interior

The safari style is sometimes referred to as the British colonial. More than a hundred years ago, the Royal Geographical Society of Britain began to encourage research on the African continent through expeditions. Etymologically, the word comes from the Arabic language, meaning "journey". So began to call hunting expeditions in East Africa for the purpose of hunting large animals - elephants and lions. Travel to Africa went to researchers, cartographers, naturalists. Carved figurines of rare wood species, textiles embroidered with motifs of tribal peoples, skin of exotic animals, photos with images of breathtaking landscapes, brought to Europe from these expeditions, enthralled and intrigued the imagination of Europeans. Since 1895, the colonization of East Africa by rich people began. Settled in the area, they mixed luxury Victorian elements in their homes with exotic motifs, resulting in a style of safari that does not lose popularity nowadays and has become especially fashionable after the release of the film "From Africa" directed by Sidney Pollack with the participation of Meryl Streep, Robert Redford, Klaus Maria Brandauer. A seductive mosquito net, excited by a light breeze, colorful oriental rugs, classic silverware, antiques, silks and laces, a nostalgic chest cabinet are just some of the defining elements of style.

The interior in the style of safari is characterized by the inclusion of many natural materials (wood, bamboo, rattan, stone, canvas, jute, reed) in combination with a bright color scheme. The main colors are brown, green, yellow, black, rust color. Woven rugs, blankets, pillows, drapes, upholstery with mysterious drawings, supplemented by accents of yellow or gold, reminiscent of the scorching sun of the desert. Decorators use geometric patterns, characteristic of tribal African peoples, mix bands, squares, circles, primitive drawings.

The safari style is necessarily marked with ornaments (on upholstery, tapestries) imitating drawings on animal skins: giraffe, reptiles, zebra stripes, cheetah stains and the like. Art works from cane and branches with imperfectly imperfect natural forms are an integral part of the design, they are also used in the decorative design of furniture handles, table legs, shutters. To decorate a living space, plants are used, but only living ones: ornamental palms, succulents.

The safari style in the interior includes many scenery - paintings, figurines, ceramic pots with images of African animals. In terms of furniture: it can be of different styles, but from dark wood: minimalistic with clean lines, elegant with quaint carvings, rustic and cozy, bamboo or rattan. In any case, we must not forget that the main key in choosing this style: exclusively natural materials in all details and conditions. Safari style is not limited only to the space of the house, it is universal and includes not only interior design, architecture, clothes.
