Optimal ways to deliver containers from Los Angeles to Europe

The second largest metropolitan area in the United States, Los Angeles, located on the Pacific coast, grew out of a small village, the foundation of which was approved in 1781 by the governor of a very young California state. Its name in Spanish translates as follows: "The village of the Virgin Mary, the queen of angels, on the river Porsyunkul." But since it was too long even for remembering, in time the city grew, and the name was shortened until it fit into two familiar words.

Today, Los Angeles is known all over the world, above all, as the capital of the entertainment industry. Here is the famous Hollywood and the most famous record companies, and the most famous people of America consider it prestigious to have a house in the Beverly Hills area. "The city in which dreams come true" has attracted people from all over the world for the last several decades, being one of the largest centers of tourism and international business: from here the shipments from the USA are delivered all over the world.

The location of the city, beneficial to all branches of business, contributes to its development and prosperity. Los Angeles is one of the largest port cities in America, where the ways of delivery of international cargo departing by sea routes converge. The two ports - Los Angeles and Long Beach - form one of the largest ports in the world in terms of cargo turnover. The area of the port of Los Angeles is 3,5 thousand kilometers. Every day 27 cargo terminals are serviced by ships carrying any kinds of cargo.

Sea containers from this port are delivered in the direction of Hamburg and Antwerp by a maximum of two sea lines. All water service takes 40-45 days and is the most profitable option in terms of cost. The long way is due to the territorial location of the port: ships with cargoes going to Europe have to skirt the continent of North America from its southern side, so that through the narrow Panama Isthmus go from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Through the Atlantic vessels directly go to European ports, from where by rail or by road, containerized cargo is transported throughout the Eurasian continent.

There are two more options for delivery of goods from Los Angeles. Both assume the transportation of goods by rail to the ports of the East Coast - Houston, or New York. From these ports containers are sent by sea to Europe. At the same time, delivery through Houston will take 30-35 days, and through New York from 20 to 25. With shorter delivery times, the cost of transportation increases accordingly. Therefore, before choosing the most advantageous variant of the route, it is necessary to estimate the ratio of the cost of the expected cargoes and the speed of their delivery.
