Oasis at home: caring for a palm tree at home

Fans of home oases know that palm house plants are an ornament of a dwelling. They create an atmosphere of uniqueness and mystery of the house.

Care for the palm tree.

At home, this procedure does not require something special and complex, but knowing how to do it rightly does not interfere.

Most species of palms require space. Therefore, the room should be large and well-lit. Optimal option for cultivation will be a bright place in the living room with scattered light.

Proper care for a palm tree at home requires that the plants do not tolerate cold and drafts, so they should not be put on a cold floor or a window sill. The optimal room temperature for growing - from 14 to 22 C. Care is required when ventilating the room during the winter period to prevent drafts.

Palm trees are plants that love moisture, so their watering has some specific features: in summer, this procedure should be done daily, and in winter - much less often. It is desirable to use water, which was defended for some time. Water from the water pipe, used for irrigation, often differs rigidity, so it is necessary to change the top layer of the earth once a year to remove the accumulated salts. The soil of a palm plant should not be dry. It is required to maintain its humidity.

When watering, you need to consider the temperature of the air: if the palm tree is in a cold place in winter (up to 10 C), then it is desirable to water it as little as possible. It is better in this case, the plant to spray. In general, systematic and regular spraying is another feature of palm care. It is advisable to do this with warm water from one and the other side of the sheet. Spraying in summer should be carried out no more than 3 times a week, in winter - once every six to seven days. When the plants dry up, the leaves of the palm can turn yellow. They need to be cut so that a thin band of dried leaves remains over the living tissue. The leaves turn yellow at the dryness of the air, and the watering of the plant in this case can be quite sufficient. To increase air humidity, in addition to spraying, you can place a container with water near the palm plant.

As for transplantation, it should be noted that a young palm should be transplanted every year, an adult one on average every few years (two to four years). Optimum transplantation time, as in whole and for other plants - spring. Roots that are damaged and rotted are removed. It is advisable in the process not to damage the healthy roots, because otherwise they will just wither away. It is important: the transplant should be performed with the preservation of a single earth coma at the root. Young plants are planted in light soils, later in the transplant is added soil of turf species. When selecting a pot, it should be taken into account that it should not be low, and for some species of palm (for example, date) it is desirable to choose a pot of a narrow form. It is also necessary to provide a good drainage layer (this may be pebbles, preferably large, or sand stones). When planting or transplanting palm-grown plants, it is worth adding clay to the soil.

Caring for a palm tree at home assumes and top dressing of this amazing plant. In summer, fertilizing is performed approximately once a week and a half, in winter - less often (every five to six days). After this, it is required to loosen the soil to ensure air access to the roots.

Proper care for the palm tree at home will make the plant beautiful and decorative, and the living room will give refinement and exoticism that will please the surrounding and guests of the house and give them a good mood.
