Mastopathy: medication

Mastopathy is a disease that affects the mammary gland and is a consequence of hormonal failure in women. It is characterized by the development of benign formation, which can affect the ducts, alveoli, connective and in some cases fatty tissue.

Mastopathy is treated in two ways: conservative, not involving surgical intervention, and operative, i.e. Surgical. In the early stages, conservative treatment of mastopathy is usually performed. If the disease is characterized by the presence of significant seals, cysts and if it does not respond to non-surgical methods of treatment, resort to prompt intervention.

In the treatment of mastopathy, the following tasks are set:

  • Reduce pain syndrome;
  • Reduce cysts and fibrous tissue of the breast;
  • Prevent recurrence of tumors;
  • To adjust the hormonal status.

More recently, new medicines have been introduced into medical practice (progestogen, mastodipon, mammoleptin, vobenzim), which have proved effective in the treatment of mastopathy at an early stage. However, they proved to be insufficiently effective for patients with fibrocystic mastopathy and women, who in the family from mastopathy suffer or suffer the next of kin.

In the treatment of the disease, emphasis is placed on eliminating the causes of mastopathy: dysfunction of the ovaries, nervous disorders, liver diseases and gynecological diseases. Hormone therapy is prescribed in difficult cases.

However, there are forms of mastopathy that are hard to treat hormone therapy. These include fibromatous and fibro-cystic mastopathy, as well as proliferative forms of fibroadenomatosis.

Widespread use in the hormonal treatment of mastopathy found the following drugs:

  • Antiestrogens (phareston, tamoxifen);
  • Gestagens;
  • Oral contraceptives;
  • Inhibitors of prolactin secretion;
  • Androgens;
  • Analogs of the releasing hormone gonadotropin (LHRH).

As practice has shown, gestagens increase the therapeutic effect to 80%. The group of these drugs, which are most often prescribed, include "Pregnin", "Norkolut", "Organometr."

Young women under the age of 35 usually take such oral contraceptives as "Silest", "Marvelon", "Mersilon" and "Femoden". These funds significantly reduce soreness and engorgement of the mammary glands, as well as restore the menstrual cycle. With the reception of "Danazol", the pain wanes by the end of the first month.

As a rule, the duration of the course of treatment is 4-6 months, necessary for resorption of the seals. If there is an increased level of prolactin and the expiration of milk, the doctor prescribes such inhibitors of prolactin as "Bromocriptine" or "Parlodel".

In the treatment of mastopathy, the medicinal product for external use of Progestogel 1% proved to be exceptionally effective. It includes micronized progesterone, obtained from medicinal herbs, which, being identical to endogenous, is released in the form of a gel.

The main advantage of "Progestogen" is its external application, due to which the bulk of the drug remains in the tissues of the breast, getting into the bloodstream in a small amount (10%). This explains the absence of side effects, which are possible after preoral intake of progesterone. The recommended dose of the drug applied to each breast is 2.5 grams continuously or for 3-4 months in the second phase of the menstrual cycle.

Non-hormonal therapy, in addition to correcting the diet, proper selection of a bra, involves the intake of vitamins, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs) and diuretics, as well as tools for improving blood circulation. With diffuse mastopathy , NSAIDs are widely used.

Indomethacin or brufen, taken in the second phase of the menstrual cycle, relieve pain, promote the removal of edema and resorption of the compartments, and improve the results of X-ray and ultrasound studies. A typical indication for the use of these drugs is mastopathy in the glandular form.
